Donald Alsop is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. He joined the court in 1974 after being nominated by President Richard Nixon.

Education

Alsop graduated from the University of Minnesota with both his bachelor's and J.D. degrees in 1950 and 1952.

Professional career

Alsop started his legal career as a law clerk for former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Thomas Gallagher from 1951 to 1952. He spent the rest of his legal career in private practice in the State of Minnesota.

Judicial nominations and appointments

District of Minnesota

Alsop was nominated by President Richard Nixon on August 8, 1974, to a seat vacated by Judge Philip Neville as Neville retired. Alsop was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 18, 1974, and received commission on December 20, 1974. Alsop served as chief judge from 1985 to 1992 before assuming senior status on August 28, 1992.
