Malcolm Muir (October 20, 1914 - July 22, 2011) was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 1970 after being nominated by President Richard Nixon. He served as a federal judge for close to a third of his 96 years.[1][2]
Early life and education
A native Pennsylvanian, Muir graduated from Lehigh University with his Bahchelor's degree in 1935 and later graduated from Harvard Law School with his Law degree in 1938. Also, Muir served on active duty as a U.S. Navy Lieutenant from 1942 to 1945.[3]
Professional career
Muir spent his entire pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Pennsylvania from 1938 to 1942 and from 1945 to 1970.[3]
Judicial career
Middle District of Pennsylvania
Muir was nominated by President Richard Nixon on September 28, 1970 to a new seat created by 84 Stat. 294 created by Congress. Muir was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 8, 1970 and received commission on October 14, 1970. Muir assumed senior status on August 31, 1984.[3] Muir was succeeded in this position by Edwin Kosik.
