Gerard Louis Goettel (1928-2011) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Goettel was nominated by President Gerald Ford on March 2, 1976, to a seat vacated by Arnold Bauman; he was confirmed by the Senate on March 26, 1976, and received commission four days later. Goettel was succeeded in this position by Lewis Kaplan. He assumed senior status on August 5, 1993, where he served until his passing on December 19, 2011.[1]
Education
Goettel earned his B.A. from Duke University in 1950 and his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1955.[1]
Military service
Goettel served as a Lieutenant in the United States Coast Guard from 1951 to 1953.[1]
