Meyer was nominated by President Barack Obama on June 7, 2013, to the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut to a seat vacated by Mark Kravitz. The president also nominated Timothy Brooks the same day, and Obama commented that he was "honored to put forward these highly qualified candidates for the federal bench," adding that, "they will be distinguished public servants and valuable additions to the United States District Court."[2]

Meyer was rated Unanimously Well Qualified for the nomination by the American Bar Association. Hearings on Meyer's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on July 24, 2013, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on September 19, 2013. Under provisions of Rule XXXI, paragraph six of the Senate, Meyer's nomination was returned to the president on January 3, 2014. President Obama resubmitted Meyer's nomination on January 6, 2014, and his nomination was reported by Sen. Leahy on January 16, 2014, without additional hearings. Meyer was confirmed on a recorded 91-2 vote of the U.S. Senate on February 24, 2014, and he received his commission the next day.[1][3][4][5]
