Albus Duckweed is a recurring character in Amphibia. He is a newt critic for different occasions and is the most popular critic in the town of Wartwood. He also serves as the announcer for the town's public events.
Appearance[]
Body[]
Albus is a green newt with a light green underbelly and darker green spots on his tail, red pupils, and has teal hair tied into a ponytail with a purple bow. He has a semi-noticeable Adam's apple.
Clothing[]
Albus wears a purple overcoat lined with golden buttons shaped like clovers, black pants, purple dress shoes with yellow buttons, and a black tricorn hat on his head.
Personality[]
Albus is very critical of other people's work, especially if it has anything to do with food, and also seems to be very picky and criticizes people if he doesn't like what they seem to be doing or the food they serve to him. This is evident during "Lily Pad Thai", where he criticizes Stumpy for his diner's condition and threatens to post a negative review, which he states is something he loves about his job as a restaurant critic. He is seen to have controversial, and sometimes strange, views on restaurants that he visits. After the kraken served to him as a meal grabs him and begins to attack all the amphibians in the restaurant, he states it was a fascinating and stunning experience for him, and later posts a positive review of Stumpy's Diner.
Background[]
Early life[]
Albus Duckweed is a newt and critic for anyone's work in Wartwood, writing his reviews for the town paper and sometimes having comic strips.[1]
Firefly Festival[]
During the Firefly Festival, Duckweed announced to everyone that Sprig Plantar and Ivy Sundew are the lovebirds for the festival and will be performing the Ritual Dance.[2]
Reviewing Stumpy's Diner[]
One day, Albus arrives at Stumpy's Diner, and starts criticizing Stumpy for serving him only one fly in his soup, only for Anne Boonchuy to show up and defend Stumpy and his restaurant. When Albus taunts her, Anne challenges him; give her and Stumpy two days to turn the diner around and Albus will have to give a positive review, if not he will give a negative one and shut down Stumpy's business, which Albus agrees to.
Though Anne and Stumpy are to fix up the restaurant and give it a makeover, a disguised Albus arrived at the newly opened restaurant to check out the huge improvements, but stubbornly decides to give the restaurant a bad review anyhow. This causes Anne and Stumpy to cook up a kraken and serve it to Albus specifically, but once they bring it to the table, it comes alive and starts attacking everyone. Anne and Stumpy team up by first spraying its eye with lemon juice and then killing it with a meat masher.
After the attack, Albus suddenly changes his mind as he found the experience of food trying to eat you as artful and decides to give the restaurant a positive review instead.[1]
Mind-controlled[]
Duckweed was among the amphibians mind-controlled by Apothecary Gary's mind-controlling mushroom spores, but was later freed when Bessie ate Gary.[3]
Wartwood's Battle of the Bands[]
Albus is alongside Mayor Toadstool, one of the two judges for Wartwood's Battle of the Bands. Both Albus and Toadstool were impressed with Grime's harp performance, declaring him the winner. Albus then poses for the group photo that Anne, Marcy, and Sasha take as a final goodbye to the town.[4]
Joining the Resistance[]
Sometime later, during the destruction of Amphibia by King Andrias, Albus joined the Wartwood Resistance. He was among the resistance who was informed of the news that someone was bringing them supplies and gear. He later stays behind with the rest of the resistance to beat up a piñata that looks like Andrias.[5]
Resistance's war[]
After the announcement that frogs, toads, and newts would have to work together to fight Andrias is badly received in the Resistance, Anne points out that Albus, being a newt, and Toadstool, being a toad, were living "happily" together in Wartwood, only for Albus and Toadstool to reveal the dislike and bad relationship between the two.[6]
