"The Three Armies" is the first segment of the sixteenth episode of the third season of Amphibia, and the one hundred and third episode overall. It is the first part to the four-part series finale.
It premiered on April 30, 2022, alongside "The Beginning of the End".[1][2]
Synopsis
Anne and Sasha must convince the frogs, newts and toads to work together.[2]
Plot
After Anne and Sasha proclaim that their plan to defeat King Andrias is coming together, the Resistance gets excited but the cheering is replaced with awkward silence when they hear that the Toad and Newt armies are coming to join them. Because there's 9 centuries of animosity between the 3 races, it's highly likely they won't work together. When Anne brags about her skill at "brokering peace between feuding factions," confusing Sasha, Anne says she's confident that she can get the frogs, toads and newts to get along by acting as their moderator.
Toadie then informs the girls that Tritonio and Beatrix have arrived and when they do, they start fighting, with Beatrix calling newts snobs and Tritonio calling toads brutes, then they insult Hop Pop, which angers the elderly frog. Tritonio and Beatrix decide to leave, but Anne invites them into the underground base so she can begin to fix the rift between their species.
Anne tries to get them to hear each other's ideas, but Beatrix's comes off as belligerent, Tritonio's is nonsensical and neither wants to listen to Hop Pop. Anne next suggests having all three armies do a series of team building exercises, but of course they all devolve into internal arguments until eventually everyone starts fighting with one another. With all of her trust-building exercises ending in disaster, Polly gleefully handing out weapons, and all three factions round each other up and proceed to brawling and letting their rage get the better of them, Anne uses her blue gem ability to force everyone to stop fighting.
She chastises everyone for not listening to one another or taking the war seriously and that they're the ones who have to solve their own problems and not her, finally realizing only the 3 amphibian races can work things out between them. As she and Sasha leave, everyone looks at each other feeling guilty. Tearfully, Anne cries over her failure, but Sasha comforts her. Just then Hop Pop, Beatrix and Tritonio enter the room and reveal that they have come up with a battle strategy together which Anne and Sasha loves because it reminds them of a movie that Marcy made them watch during sleepovers. The amphibians admit building a bridge between the 3 species will be difficult, but they are willing to work at it, which Anne is overjoyed to hear.
Just then, Mother Olm arrives and reveals that Andrias' plan to invade Earth in a few days was a lie and that he will be invading that night. The three armies have become one and they begin to mobilize.

Trivia
- Viewership: This episode was watched by 0.25 viewers on its premiere.[6]
- This and "The Beginning of the End" are the last episodes divided into 11-minute segments of the series.
- This episode and "The Beginning of the End" premiered on Disney XD the same day they were added to Disney+.
- This is the last episode to take place completely in Amphibia.
- This along with "The Beginning of the End" is the last of eight episodes to use the short opening sequence after "Toad Tax"/"Prison Break", "Reunion", "The First Temple", "True Colors", "The New Normal", "Escape to Amphibia" and "The Root of Evil"/"The Core & The King".
- Given that the previous two season finales both used the short opening sequence, this could imply that the series finale is split into four parts, this being the first. Matt Braly hinted at this on Twitter.[8]
- This is the last episode to show any opening at all.
- This (along with "The Beginning of the End") is the fourth episode following "Froggy Little Christmas", "All In" and "The Hardest Thing" to have its score released and the first to neither be a full-length episode nor be released on Soundcloud.[9]
Revelations and significant events
- Frogs, toads, and newts have been in conflict with each other for nine hundred years.
- Despite living amongst frogs in Wartwood for years, both Toadstool and Duckweed still have their reservations about them and each other.
- The whole resistance learns about Anne's powers.
- Anne is now able to fully tap into her powers for a short period of time without passing out afterwards, after having become able to use a limited amount of her power without collapsing in "Escape to Amphibia".
- Near the end, Hop Pop, Tritonio, and Beatrix put their differences aside to work together in the war.
- Marcy forced Anne and Sasha to watch a film entitled War of the Warlocks with her during every one of their sleepovers.
- Mother Olm reveals that Andrias' invasion would occur that very night, instead of a few days. Andrias possibly did it to potentially throw off the resistance.
Continuity
- Mayor Toadstool and Albus Duckweed disliking each other was implied in "Battle of the Bands", with Toadstool intentionally calling Albus "Goose-lily."
- The events of "Grime's Pupil" and "Newts in Tights" are referenced.
- Sprig mentions the resistance's alliance with the citizens of Gardenton in "The Root of Evil".
Allusions
- Math Lady (Nazaré) - When Anne boasts about her skill at brokering peace between feuding factions, Sasha gets a confused expression and is briefly surrounded by mathematical equations, a visual nod to this Brazillian meme originated from the soap opera Senhora Do Destino.
