The Battle of the Bands is a musical competition event held in Wartwood in the episode of the same name.
Background[]
Wartwood has been a little on edge since Sasha and Grime arrived due to their past invasion, so Mayor Toadstool consults an activity from the Wheel of Fun to relieve tension. The arrow lands on "Battle of the Bands", prompting everyone to find a musical partner. Anne immediately reunites her former garage band with Marcy and Sasha, Sasha and the Sharps, while Sprig and Hop Pop join Wally and Loggle's jug band and Grime goes solo. Since Mayor Toadstool has bought himself a 12-hour nap, Toadie is left to his own devices, feeling outcast.
Back at the Plantar Farm, the girls are rehearsing for the event and Sasha suggests playing her song "Heartstomper" at the battle, but Anne would much rather play her new Amphibia tribute song she wrote. This creates a conflict between the girls as Sasha tries to change the lyrics, melody, and costume designs to suit herself. She quits the band after Anne calls her out for her controlling attitude. After being rejected by solo-act Grime, Sasha finds herself a partner in Toadie, as they are both alone and Toadie needs someone to boss him around while he plays music.
When the evening strikes, the Battle of the Bands has officially begun, with Mayor Toadstool and Duckweed being the judges and Polly and Frobo assisting with the stage lighting and fog effects. The battle kicks off with Chuck presenting his singing tulips he grew, which Toadstool and Duckweed aren't impressed with. The next act is Mrs. Croaker making her pet spider Archie warble like a theremin. Toadstool rates Croaker's act a 2, while Duckweed rates it a 10. The next act is Sprig, Hop Pop, Wally, and Loggle playing country music, with Loggle falling off of his rocking chair, causing Toadstool and Duckweed to give them a mediocre rating. Backstage, Sasha meets Anne and Marcy and compliments them on their outfits, then wishing them good luck on their performance despite going separate ways. Toadie asks Sasha if they should be worried about them; Sasha reassures him that their performance is alright but nowhere near as good as it could have been with her in control. Sasha then feels remorseful because she just wanted all three of them to succeed and to be a good friend to Anne and Marcy. Toadie gives Sasha a heartwarming lesson reminding her that she can't force success and being a good friend means being there for someone when they need it the most.
Anne and Marcy go onstage to perform their number "No Big Deal" and receive praise from the audience, including Sasha smiling as she watches from behind the stage, but their performance is halted when there's no one there to play the guitar solo. Sasha then reunites with the band as she plays an epic solo with her axe-beetle. The crowd cheers as the judges rate the performance an 8. The final contestant is Grime, who has brought a gigantic harp with him and begins to play a beautiful piece dedicated to the serenity of nature. His performance goes on for 3 hours; once it's finished, Toadstool and Duckweed rate it a 10/10 and declare Grime winner of the Battle of the Bands. Sasha admits it was worth it to lose the battle to have fun with her friends.
