Snakes are large reptiles that live in Amphibia. They prey upon amphibians and can live on land or in water. A water snake lived near Wartwood Swamp, and another known as Wanda performed at the Newtopia aquarium. Several land-based snakes were also commonly used as guards in Andrias' army.
Amphibian snakes share the same behavior as their Earth counterparts, albeit at a larger scale.
Appearance[]
Water snakes are very large and dull-colored, with a light underbelly. They have brown spots with a darker shade of outlines across their backs. Their eyes are orange with light red, slit pupils. Their fangs stick out of the bottom of their lower jaw. The water snakes have transparent spines along their backs running toward the tail.
Land-based snakes, on the other hand, have dark scales and yellow eyes, and usually have red or blue underbellies. Under the influence of mind-controlling collars, the snakes have glowing purple eyes. When worn, they make the snake angrier than they usually are. Also in "Newts in Tights", it is shown that when a wire on their armor gets damaged/ripped off or only part of their collar gets sliced, their eyes lose their glow effect and just stay a plain dark purple color.

In "Best Fronds", when Anne snaps a funny picture of Sprig, she alerts him of the giant viscous water snake that's emerged right behind him. The duo try to swim away from the snake, but it is too late once Sprig is swallowed by it. The snake then spits Sprig out in response to being fed some of Hop Pop's Pain Peppers he brought with him, causing the snake to drift away in anguish.
Trivia[]
- The water snake is based on its real-life counterpart, such as the branded water snake found in the United States.
- The red land snake resembles the ring-necked snake found throughout the United States (especially along the eastern coast), southeastern Canada, and central Mexico.
- The baskets at the Wartwood Bugball court are made out of snake skulls.[1]
