"After the Rain" is the second segment of the thirteenth episode of the second season of Amphibia, and the sixty-third episode overall.[5]
It premiered on March 13, 2021, alongside "Ivy on the Run".
Synopsis
Anne asks Hop Pop to retrieve the music box, bringing some long-buried secrets to light.
Plot
Anne gets a letter from Marcy saying that she's ready for them to head out together to the first temple. She is told to bring four things with them: food, weapons, armor (which Hop Pop made by simply using inflated fabric), and finally the music box. Hop Pop is horrified at this news, but tells Anne that he will retrieve it from his 'contacts' before they leave on their mission. In the middle of the night, Anne, too excited to sleep, hears Hop Pop get up in the middle of the night and head outside. She decides to surprise him, but it turns out that he was digging for the Calamity Box under the tree and realizing that it's gone. Anne is shocked by what she has just heard and Hop Pop attempts to explain, but a furious and confused Anne believes that he was trying to keep her in Amphibia forever and she angrily storms off into the woods.
In the morning, Sprig and Polly learn about what happened and convince Hop Pop to go search for Anne while they go looking for the box. Hop Pop finds Anne's, incredibly obvious, trail as she went to hide in the cave that she stayed prior to moving in with the Plantars. Meanwhile, Sprig and Polly head into town and discover that there are holes everywhere with people's items missing. Soggy Joe tells the kids that this is the work of the Magpie Beetle and they head back home to discover a tunnel in the hole where Hop Pop dug. They go inside and discover that the Magpie Beetles are in the middle of a "love-nado dance" and get caught up in it. Hop Pop finally finds Anne and when he tries to explain his reasoning for hiding the box, suddenly hears Sprig and Polly in trouble.
Anne and Hop Pop are forced to work together to save Sprig and Polly from the pit of Magpie Beetles, and they manage to pull them out, along with the box. As Anne prepares to leave again, Hop Pop reveals the source of his fears:
- While he was out adventuring, a group of monstrous herons attacked Wartwood. Though Sprig and Polly were able to hide and managed to survive the attack, their parents (unfortunately) didn't make it. Blaming himself for what happened to the kids' parents, Hop Pop promised to look after the kids while forbidding any more dangerous adventures.
Hearing all this, Anne forgives Hop Pop and they head back home. Hop Pop shows them the book that told him of the Calamity Box's origin, and Anne warns the group that the temple missions will be dangerous. Nevertheless, the Plantars agree to help Anne any way they can.

Allusions
- Sonic the Hedgehog - A possible reference is made when Polly spins in place with some "Spin Dash" sounds.
- Bambi - The "Little April Shower" segment of the 1942 film is evoked when a rodent-like creature hunkers down under a mushroom to avoid the rainfall that a mother fowl protects her chicks from using her wings as a canopy.
- Gravity Falls - Among the objects inside the "love-nado dance" is Dipper's hat.
- Super Mario 64 - Hop Pop swings Anne and the others in a 360-degree motion in a similar manner to Mario with Bowser's tail, once he finishes spinning and throws it he also makes a sound similar to that of the prototype voice for Mario just like in the previous episode's second segment.
Errors
- On Disney+, the description for this episode and "Ivy on the Run" are swapped.
- When Anne and the Plantars escape from the love-nado, Anne's backpack is not present, but when she turns around to leave, it is once more on her back.
