"The Dinner" is the first segment of the nineteenth episode of the second season of Amphibia, and the seventy-third overall.[4]
It premiered on April 24, 2021, alongside "Battle of the Bands".
Synopsis
Anne and the Plantars invite some old adversaries over for dinner to try to bury the hatchet.
Plot
One evening, the Plantars busy themselves setting up a nice dinner to welcome Sasha back (along with Grime), but are still hesitant because of her trying to killing them. Anne insists that she and Marcy trust Sasha and they believe she truly has changed.
At Felicia's tea shop, where they're staying, Grime instructs Sasha to keep up the nice act for their plan to gain her friends' trust so they can get into Newtopia to enact their plan of rebellion; Sasha is confident that she already has Anne and Marcy in the palm of her hands after the third temple and once they conquer Amphibia, she can get her friendship with the girls under her control once again. When they arrive for the dinner, Anne, Sasha and Marcy are all elated to be together again. Grime has brought a devastatingly delicious dessert, an exploding chocolate vol-cake-no, which will result in a cataclysmic explosion of chocolatey goodness.
Over dinner, there are a few Amphibia cultural faux pas, with Grime asking what frogs the Plantars (who are frogs themselves) extort for their delicious produce, and Hop Pop's toad-based jokes (though Grime actually finds it quite funny). During dinner, Sasha is actually impressed by Hop Pop's cooking, then she and the girls reminisce about the time they skipped theater rehearsal to throw a wild party on the school roof, but things get awkward for Sasha when she's reminded that Anne took the blame and got punished when they got caught.
Hop Pop suggests the group play a rousing game of Drawsidoodle (which is basically Pictionary with a different name). While playing, we see Grime and Hop Pop getting along rather well, while Sasha buckles under the pressure of seeing how well Marcy and Anne were getting on without her presence. When it's her turn to draw, we get a rapid-fire succession of memories about the fall of Toad Tower, each hitting nerves with Sasha and even Grime, but it turns out that her drawing was of a simple tree.
Just then the vol-cake-no Grime brought over grows to epic proportions and hot chocolate lava comes pouring out everywhere. As a result, Grime explains that toads have a grand battle during dessert and gets stung and paralyzed by giant hornets that start flying out of the cake. As the hornets begin swarming all around everyone, the human girls work together when they discover they can penetrate the insects' hard exoskeletons with their own stingers. After they defeat the hornets and toss them all into the chocolate just before it hardens, Sasha apologizes and explains she is not sure she wants to change because she likes the way she is. Anne then tells Sasha that while she knows it is difficult for her to change, she needs to accept the fact that Anne has done so. Sasha does see the truth in what Anne is saying and hugs her.
Grime awakens after his paralysis wears off and he introduces everyone to the chocolate covered hornets and find that they are quite delicious.

- Anne and Marcy mention the ant queen from "Marcy at the Gates".
- Anne wears the same dress as in "Lily Pad Thai", albeit in different colors and with flats.
- Marcy tries to stop Anne and Sasha's fight by stating that they are "supposed to be friends for life" who "don't split up," foreshadowing Marcy's true intentions with the Calamity Box that would be exposed at the end of the season.
Errors
- When Sasha and Grime get ready for the dinner and Sasha sits on a chair, the red lines on her boots are missing.
- The darker spot on Sprig's head is missing for the entirety of the episode.
- Continuity error: Although Polly mentions that Hop Pop knows his way around the kitchen, "Hop Luck" and "Amphibia Food!" show that he is in fact bad at cooking. Although it is possible he's improved his cooking skills since then.
