"Contagi-Anne" is the first segment of the eighth episode of the first season of Amphibia, and the fifteenth episode overall.
It premiered on June 27, 2019 alongside "Family Shrub".
Synopsis
Anne fakes being sick to get out of work during a severe storm, but when the rest of the family actually gets sick, it's up to Anne to take care of them and get them to the healing-pond before it's too late.
Plot
To get out of working outside during a severe thunderstorm, Anne fakes getting sick by making up an illness called "Mocha-Lattes". The Plantars, not knowing about human sicknesses, fall for it and leave her inside, where she takes a hot bath, paints her nails, and eats ice cream. But when Hop Pop, Sprig, and Polly come back from working on the farm, they're shown to have actually become sick and face various symptoms such as puffy eyes and elongated tongues. Feeling guilty, Anne decides to take care of them while continuing to pretend to be sick as well. The Plantars then start to develop a disease called Red Leg, which is known to be extremely deadly and causes the infected to slowly turn red. Finding that there is a pond called "The Peak of Health" that can heal them, Anne decides to takes the Plantars there in a cart pulled by Bessie.
Shortly after reaching the entrance of the Peak of Health, Bessie decides to stop moving, forcing Anne to carry the Plantars the rest of the way on the cart. After climbing a steep trail and jumping over hot geysers, they reach the final pathway to the peak only to find out that they were jumping steps, separated quite far and meant for frogs. Anne, still determined to get the Plantars to the pond, jumps onto a giant fly and they ride it upward, making it to the pond. However, the redness doesn't die off. Sad that she will lose her adoptive family, Anne tells them the truth and promises to never fake sickness again. Fortunately, they realize that they are not dying, but are just red because of a mushroom Anne put in the soup she made for them when they had initially gotten sick, which produced symptoms similar to "Red Leg". Overjoyed by this, Anne then hugs the Plantars and cries in tears of joy knowing they are going to live.

Trivia
- Viewership: This episode was watched by 0.41 million viewers on its premiere.[2]
- This is the first time Anne is shown barefoot in her casual outfit.
- This is the first time Anne is shown wearing her hair in a ponytail.
- This episode has been pulled from reruns on Disney Channel in March 2020 due to its themes of sickness mirroring the COVID-19 pandemic. It started airing again on Disney XD on October 5, 2020.
- Despite being listed in the credits, Wally has no lines in the episode, but can be heard screaming in the background.
- Red-Leg is a real frog disease. It is usually brought about by lack of humidity, stress or even poor diet. When Hop Pop states that the only cure is to bathe in the healing waters, this could be a reference to how actual treatment is applied by adding enroflaxacin to tank water for them to bathe in. Frogs can also be treated with an effective antibiotic orally or intramuscularly.
Revelations and significant events
- Hop Pop hasn't realized that human tongues are smaller than those of frogs.
- Anne has experience in faking being sick.
- Sprig's favorite food is mushrooms.
- Hop Pop uses the same mushroom for cleaning Bessie's stable, the bathroom floor, and scrubbing the pots.
Continuity
- Anne's temporary bed that she used while sharing a room with Sprig in "Flood, Sweat & Tears" still lies on the floor in Sprig's bedroom. It's most likely she forgot to clean up when going back to the basement.
- The Plantar family isn't scared, impressed or even afraid of dying. In fact, they pretty much accept it without a second thought.
- Hop Pop mentions that Anne is being very friendly and helpful to him and that he finds that very uncharacteristic of her. This is indeed not what Anne has been showing towards him in previous episodes and what they have argued about, most visual in the episode "Stakeout".
Errors
- While at the Peak of Health, Hop Pop's tongue appears yellow for a brief moment.
Edits
- The phrases "dang it" and "I swear" were cut during Southeast Asia broadcast. The line "Just pick a corner for me to pass away in." was shortened to "Just pick a corner for me." Also, the word "live" was cut from the line "Sorry, Hop Pop. But you're going to live to see another day." was shortened to "Sorry, Hop Pop. But you're going to see another day."
