"Quarreler's Pass" is the first segment of the fourth episode of the second season of Amphibia, and the forty-sixth episode overall.[3]
It premiered on August 1, 2020, alongside "Toadcatcher".
Synopsis
Hop Pop drops Sprig and Polly off at an obstacle-filled mountain trail designed to help them get along.[4]
Plot
Anne and Hop Pop are excited to be halfway to Newtopia, but they have one small problem: Sprig and Polly's constant bickering is annoying them both. When he sees the notice for the "Quarreler's Pass, a road to reconciliation for weary travel mates", Hop Pop kicks Sprig and Polly out of the Fwagon and tells them that they will meet when the roads meet. Anne gives them her phone to call her if they have trouble, only to remember later that she only has one phone, confusing Hop Pop and Sprig. As a result, Sprig and Polly reluctantly walk off on their own but continue to bicker.
Soon after they find themselves on a log bridge called "The Beam of Balance", a hurried Polly tries to speed across the bridge and leave Sprig behind, only to fall off and be rescued by Sprig. They try to cross it slowly so as not to fall into the spiky void, at which point they remember a similar incident at Croaker's Creek, and decide to use the same crossing method they used in that incident in order to reach the other side safe and sound. They make it across the bridge successfully, and raise their spirits to successfully navigate the pass. On their side, Anne and Hop Pop enjoy their peaceful time without Sprig and Polly's fighting causing a ruckus, only for things between the two to become awkward. In an attempt to make things not so awkward, Hop Pop starts asking Anne about a possible boyfriend waiting for her back home, prompting Anne to kick him out of the wagon.
Sprig and Polly make it through several trials of the pass and find what appears to be the exit, only to realize later that it's a fake. After this they see a cave with a notice that says "THIS WEIGH ALSO GUD", they assume this is another test and head inside. The cave starts to become narrow, forcing them to cross it close together, and at this Sprig accidentally steps on Polly, causing them to fight again. They find two divided tunnels and each one decides to go their separate ways, the fighting continuing until it catches the attention of a giant olm. It looks harmless at first glance, but it then reveals its intentions to eat Polly. At the same time, Sprig tries to go to help her but he also finds a giant olm that also wants to eat him. They both end up falling into a bone cave and realize that the two giant olms are just a two-headed one named Lysil and Angwin who plan to devour them. Sprig and Polly take advantage of Lysil and Angwin not being able to see, and hide in a crevice out of their reach, which causes a fight between Lysil and Angwin. Sprig and Polly comment on how annoying the fight is, and realize that this was how Anne and Hop Pop felt about the constant bickering between the two of them. They make a truce to put aside their bickering to give Anne and Hop Pop a break, and again take advantage of Lysil and Angwin not being able to see to perfectly mimic their voices (a skill they had previously demonstrated in the fwagon) to make them think they were insulting each other so they could escape. Lysil and Angwin's fight causes a cave-in in the cave, and Sprig and Polly manage to get out of the cave before it collapses.
Outside the cave, they hear the voice of Hop Pop, who is talking about relationships, and Anne is stressed to have to listen to him. Anne is happy to see Sprig and Polly, and gets them into the fwagon to try to fill the silences. Hop Pop asks how they did on the trials but before they finish answering, Hop Pop interrupts them up so he can talk about "Anne's boyfriend", prompting Anne to kick him out of the wagon once again.
