Ronald Lew is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Lew is a judge serving on senior status.

Early life and education

A native Californian, Lew graduated from Loyola Marymount University with his bachelor's degree in 1964 and later graduated from the Southwestern University School of Law with his Juris Doctorate degree in 1971. Lew also served in the US Army on active duty during the Vietnam Conflict from 1967 to 1969.

Professional career

Lew began his career as a Deputy city attorney in the Criminal and Civil Liability Divisions of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office from 1972 to 1974 before entering into private practice as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of California from 1974 to 1981. Lew also served as the Los Angeles fire and police pension commissioner from 1976 to 1982. Lew began his judicial career as a municipal court judge in the Los Angeles Municipal Court from 1982 to 1984 before becoming Superior Court Judge in the Los Angeles County Superior Court from 1984 to 1987.

Judicial career

Central District of California

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Pete Wilson, Lew was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on November 7, 1985 to a seat vacated by Laughlin Waters as Waters later assumed senior status. Lew was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 7, 1987 on a majority voice vote and received commission on May 7, 1987.[1] Lew later assumed senior status on September 19, 2006.
