Pasco Middleton Bowman II is a federal judge on senior status on the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit. He joined the court in 1983 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan to a seat vacated by Jesse Smith Henley. Bowman assumed senior status on August 1, 2003.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Bowman graduated from Bridgewater College with his bachelor's degree in 1955, from New York University School of Law with his J.D. in 1958, and from the University of Virginia School of Law with his LL.M. in 1986.[2]
Military career
Bowman served in the U.S. Army Reserve in the JAG Corps, attaining the rank of colonel. He served from 1959-1984.[3]

Bowman was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on May 24, 1983, to a seat vacated by Judge Jesse Henley. Hearings on Bowman's nomination were held before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on June 22, 1983, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) on July 14, 1983. Bowman was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on July 18, 1983, and he received his commission the next day. Bowman served as chief judge of the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals from 1998 to 1999. He assumed senior status on the court on August 1, 2003.[3][4] He was succeeded in this position by Judge Raymond Gruender.
