Robert Coyle was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. He joined the court in 1982 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. He assumed senior status on May 13, 1996 and served until his death on May 7, 2012.

Early life and education

A native of California, Coyle graduated from Fresno State College with his bachelor's degree in 1953 and later graduated from the University of California-Hastings College of Law with his Juris Doctorate degree in 1956.

Professional career

Coyle began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney for Fresno County from 1956 to 1958 before spending the rest of his pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of California from 1958 to 1982.[1]

Judicial career

Eastern District of California

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Pete Wilson Coyle was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on March 11, 1982 to a seat vacated by Myron Crocker as Crocker assumed senior status. Coyle was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 31, 1982 on a senate vote and received commission on April 1, 1982. Coyle later assumed senior status on May 13, 1996. He assumed senior status on May 13, 1996 and served until his death on May 7, 2012. Coyle was succeeded in this position by Anthony Ishii.
