David Dudley Dowd, Jr. was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He joined the court in 1982 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Dowd took senior status in June 1996 and retired from the court July 11, 2014. Judge Dowd died on August 4, 2016.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dowd graduated from Wooster College with his bachelor's degree in 1951 and graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1954.

Judicial nominations and appointments

Northern District of Ohio

On the recommendation of Ohio Congressman Delbert Latta, Dowd was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on August 24, 1982, to a seat vacated by Judge Leroy John Contie, Jr as Contie assumed senior status. Dowd was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 22, 1982, and received commission on September 23, 1982. Dowd later assumed senior status on June 30, 1996, and retired from the court on July 11, 2014. Judge Dowd died on August 4, 2016.[1][3]
