Michael A. Telesca was a federal judge with the United States District Court for the Western District of New York. He joined the court in 1982 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan (R). He left service when he died on March 5, 2020.

From 1989 to 1995, Telesca served as the chief judge of the district court.

Early life and education

A native of Rochester, New York, Telesca graduated from the University of Rochester with his undergraduate degree in 1952 and from University of Buffalo Law School with his LL.B. in 1955.[1]

Military service

Telesca served as a lieutenant in U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 to 1957.[1]

Telesca was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on March 11, 1982, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of New York vacated by Judge Harold Burke. Hearings on Telesca's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 31, 1982, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) on April 14, 1982. Telesca was confirmed by the unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate on April 20, 1982, and he received his commission the next day. Telesca served as the chief judge of the district court from 1989 to 1995. He elected to take senior status beginning on May 3, 1996. He was succeeded in this position by Judge Charles Siragusa.[1][2]
