This page is about the copies. For the original Ryuzu, see Ryuzu Meyer (original)
Ryuzu Meyer (リューズ・メイエル) is the name of the original Ryuzu Meyer, whom her copies are based on. They played supporting roles throughout Arc 4.
Originally created by Echidna during her immortality experiments, the Ryuzu clones were tasked with protecting the Sanctuary and its residents for 400 years. Following the events of Arc 4, the Ryuzu clones now live in a village near the new Roswaal Manor and are part of the Emilia Camp.
Appearance[]
Like the original Ryuzu Meyer, all of the copies look the same. Ryuzu is a petite girl with long, fluffy pink hair that curves outward at the ends. She wears a large black robe (white for Shima) that drags along the ground and is too big for her hands to show completely through the sleeves. The bodies of the copies are revealed to have been created with an artificial "Od" that is surrounded and bound together with mana, forcing them to change places in order to recharge once they reach their daily limit.
Personality[]
Out of all of the clones, only four have an actual personality, as a necessity to perform their duties as main managers of Sanctuary. Although they share the first name with the original they are given different last names as part of their roles, personality quirks, hobbies and interests. The rest of the copies are devoid of any ego and act as simple workers who obey the 4 main Ryuzu or take care of other duties. Those that are recognized to be an Apostle of Greed by Echidna are allowed to gain command over the clones if they touch the crystal the original Ryuzu resides in. Each of the four main Ryuzu take on the role as Ryuzu every four days.
Ryuzu Meyer (original): By her own will, she sacrificed her life to enact the Sanctuary's Barrier by using her own Od which sealed her body in a crystal in order to stop the Warlock of Melancholy from destroying the Sanctuary. She also agreed to be a part of Echidna's experiment as long as the witch promised to maintain the Sanctuary.
- Ryuzu Alma (リューズ・アルマ, Ryuuzu Aruma): Alma was in favor of freeing the Sanctuary. She was the one who clarified Subaru over various aspects of the conflict within the Sanctuary.
- Ryuzu Bilma (リューズ・ビルマ, Ryuuzu Biruma): Like Alma, Bilma was also in favor of freeing the Sanctuary. She is the 2nd clone Subaru meets and speaks the most with. Bilma also has the most playful disposition among the main overseers.
- Ryuzu Shima (リューズ・シーマ, Ryuuzu Shīma): Shima was against freeing the Sanctuary due to seeing the original Ryuzu's memories 10 years prior to the start of the story in the trial, and she had been partly manipulating Garfiel behind the scenes to make sure it didn't happen. She entered the grave in an attempt to rescue Garfiel but was forced into taking the trial. In the end, this meant that she had broken her contract with Echidna. As punishment, Shima was duly stripped from her position as overseer, and she was made to live with the other childlike clones in the forest, donning the white robe as a result. After the Sanctuary's fall, it is revealed after that incident from a decade prior, Echidna had been planning to use her to escape once the barrier had been lifted, and to that end, she had been slowly latching more and more of her soul onto Shima, until eventually, she successfully hijacked her body. Echidna, now in Shima's body, calls herself Omega.
- Ryuzu Delma (リューズ・デルマ, Ryuuzu Deruma): One of the copies with an actual personality. She was also in favor of lifting the barrier. She acted as Shima's support when the latter was telling the story of sanctuary's past.
- Pico (ピコ, Piko): Pico is a copy that Subaru named when he first discovered the original Ryuzu's body. She is able to follow simple orders, but other than that, she is like a baby. She was the clone most oddly attached to Subaru throughout the arc.
- Others: The other copies don't have knowledge or experience, and they can only obey broad orders. The copies act as eyes and use their telepathy to relay messages if needed. They need others to order them to eat food once in a while and curl up when they reach their limit in the forest. Following the events in Arc 4, the main clones, alongside Subaru and Garfiel, have been giving names and new hairstyles to the numerous clones in order to help them gain a proper sense of self. The same goes for Pico.
- Sphinx (スピンクス, Supinkusu): The first clone created. Due to the imperfect method of Soul Transcription, she could not inherit all of Echidna's memories, personality, and power, which left her with a fragmented mind, and as a result, she was discarded. Centuries after her creation, she became a leading figure in the Demi-Human War and the instigator of the Great Disaster. She ultimately perished by the hands of Cecilus Segmunt, Priscilla Barielle, Subaru, and Spica.
History[]
The Ryuzu copies were created by Echidna in an experiment to research immortality. She copied her memories and knowledge to the copies. However, her experiment was never completed because of her death. The main copies took over in order to manage the other copies in Echidna's place and to take on Ryuzu's role within the Sanctuary when the Mathers family supported them.
Abilities[]
Note: This section will only detail the abilities shared by the clones. For the individual abilities of characters like Sphinx or Omega, see their respective pages.
Telepathy: The Ryuzu copies are able to transmit their thoughts to each other.
Self Destruction: If ordered to do so, the clones can blow themselves up and inflict magical bomb-like damage on their enemies.
Trivia[]
- In the web novel, the main Ryuzu copies did not have already individual names, leaving Subaru to give them random Greek alphanumeric names instead. There were also 5 main Ryuzu copies instead of 4, each named Alpha, Beta, Sigma, Theta, and Omega by Subaru.
- In the light novel, it is revealed that Echidna was slowly hijacking Shima's body, ever since she accidentally underwent the first trial roughly a decade before the events of Arc 4.
- In the web novel, Echidna renamed herself as Omega, stating that this is how Subaru named her, which implies Echidna's new vessel is the original Omega Ryuzu copy who may have merged with the real Ryuzu Meyer sealed in the crystal, similar to how Shima sacrificed herself by vanishing with the crystal and became her new body in Volume 15.
- Tanaka Aimi, the Japanese voice actress of the original Ryuzu and her copies, also voices Plum Risch.
