Roswaal Manor (ロズワール邸, Rozuwāru-tei) is the name given to two mansions owned by Roswaal L. Mathers. One of them, dubbed the old Roswaal Manor (旧ロズワール邸, Kyū Rozuwāru-tei), was a reserve mansion located near Arlam Village. The second manor, dubbed the new Roswaal Manor (新ロズワール邸, Shin Rozuwāru-tei), is the main residence of the Mathers family, located near the Industrial City of Costuul.
In the climax of Arc 4, the old manor burned to the ground after Otto Suwen and Petra Leyte poured oil all over the kitchen floor and set it on fire in order to get rid of a fearsome witchbeast. Following the destruction of the mansion, Roswaal and the other inhabitants of the mansion temporarily moved to Miload Manor, located close to Roswaal's auxiliary residence, before proceeding to move to his primary one.
Appearance[]
The manor is a giant white house with five watchtowers, the fifth of which standing in the center, a giant garden, and a black roof. It has a massive basement that is almost as big as the surface of the mansion itself. At the end of Arc 4, the old mansion burned down, and Roswaal, along with the members of the Emilia Camp, moved to his main mansion.
Rooms[]
- Entry: Upon entering, it was noted that the mansion retains great elegance. There are two pillars with a pair of lamps each. In addition to having high class designs, there are lights near each door, as well as vases with flowers. On the road, there are two routes to the sides, right and left, and stairs to go up to the next floor.
- Kitchen: In that place the servants of Roswaal prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is full of plates, pots, jars, rollers, knives and other things that can be used to prepare food. In case someone needs to buy more food, they go to a market and transport the products by putting them in a barrel.
- Bathroom: The bathroom can be used as a sauna and has few marble pillars in it. It has a bath in the center of the room with a golden pillar in the center of the bath.
- Washbasin: It is used for personal hygiene, and it contains the same white washbasin, a toilet with a brown lid, and a mirror decorated with a golden frame.
- Guest's Room: It is the place where the margrave invites their visitors to talk. It has three green pieces of furniture and a small rectangular table in the center. There are also windows with light green curtains. There is a fireplace, and above it is a portrait.
- Dining Room: In the dining room, all the people in the mansion gather to eat. There is a large table covered with a white tablecloth, with chairs on each side, and regardless of the time, lights are placed on the table. The wall is green with white spaces. Behind the table is a figure in a painting, possibly a relative of the Roswaal family.
- Forbidden Library (禁書庫): The Forbidden Library was a massive library built by the Witch of Greed with the purpose of housing her vast knowledge converted into Magical Books, exclusively in the old Roswaal Manor. Some time before the Witch's demise, she installed Beatrice as the Library's keeper, until the arrival of That Person. The Forbidden Library was mentioned to be the most knowledgeable place in Lugunica. Appearance-wise, it's a huge two-story space with a spiral stair in the centre of the room. The second floor consists of a large balcony which is filled to the brim with bookshelves. Despite it being accessible through any of the Roswaal's Manor's doors, the Library itself isn't inherently part of the mansion, as it exists in a separate dimension that can be accessed through the teleportation mechanic called Door Crossing. During the fight for the Roswaal's Mansion in Arc 4's climax, Subaru, Otto and Petra managed to set the mansion aflame, which resulted in the entire mansion and the Forbidden Library burning to the ground. Furthermore, before her demise, Echidna made a mechanism that would erase the knowledge from every book in the library, should Beatrice abandon her role as the Forbidden Library's librarian. This was done so people wouldn't kill Beatrice in order to get their hands on the infinite knowledge hidden in the Forbidden Library.
- Garden: The garden is located on the outskirts of the mansion. There are several paths one can walk along. On the sides are small fields full of flowers, as well as some trees and bushes, and several rest areas.
History[]
Old Roswaal Manor[]
The manor was originally created by Roswaal A. Mathers, basing it off of the appearance of his Teacher’s original manor. Similarly, the Witch of Greed Echidna created the Forbidden Library and stored most of the knowledge she had gathered here. Beatrice, who had been created by said Witch, was left responsible for its maintenance and protection until the day “That Person” arrived. With the passage of time, the mansion’s ownership was passed along to each successive margrave, until eventually, Roswaal L. Mathers took over the title. He hired Frederica Baumann as his maid, and he brought in both Ram and Rem to work as his maids and to accomplish his future goals after having saved them from their burning village. Later, he took Emilia under his wing as his Tome of Wisdom had stated her necessity. While here, she would study for the Royal Selection to become the future queen. A couple of months before Emilia lost her insignia, Frederica and many other servants of House Mathers were let go.
When Emilia brought Subaru to the manor as a guest after he helped her with her lost insignia and saved her life, he opted to work as a butler, helping the maids with the activities. Though Ram kept an eye on him, she did not believe him to be a spy. Meanwhile, Rem was hiding her hostility towards him. As for Beatrice, she was often left annoyed with him with as often as he visited her. Naturally, everyone was unaware that Roswaal orchestrated the events that would lead Subaru here. A few days after Subaru’s arrival, Roswaal went to attend some business, leaving the responsibility of taking care of the manor to the boy. Meanwhile, Subaru and Beatrice learned of the existence of some form of curse arts user, which appeared to be a dog, through the curse that was placed on Subaru. Armed with his knowledge, he, with the help of the maids, managed to fight off the pack of Wolgarms until Roswaal’s arrival to finish them off. This allowed Subaru to gain the maids’ trust.
After a visit from Felix, and after having held a conference in the Royal Capital, Subaru stayed at the Karsten mansion. Rem decided to accompany him. Roswaal once again attended some affairs at the Sanctuary. Beatrice stayed longer in the library, Ram had to do double work due to the absence of her sister, and Emilia was by herself. A few days later, Subaru returned with some merchants in order to evacuate half the people from the nearby village to the Royal Capital and the other half to the Sanctuary, all to face the Witch Cult. Due to her contract, Beatrice remained in the mansion. Meanwhile, Ram called Frederica to take care of things in her absence.
There was a series of consequences as a result from Rem being erased from existence, such as the girl’s belongings vanishing from the room she slept in and the residents’ memories of her being completely erased. When Subaru returned accompanied by Emilia and Otto Suwen, Frederica acted as the head maid, and Petra Leyte accompanied her in her work as an apprentice. Soon after, Subaru’s group left for the Sanctuary, leaving the sleeping Rem under the maids’ care. A few days later, Subaru, Otto, and Garfiel Tinzel returned from the Sanctuary to the mansion, where they confronted Elsa Granhiert, as well as a few witchbeasts controlled by Meili Portroute, unleashing a chaotic battle that little by little damaged the manor. Subaru’s group was even forced to use fire to fend off the Guiltylowe, causing the manor to burn. With Meili captured, Elsa killed, and Subaru making a contract with Beatrice, everyone left the burning manor.
New Roswaal Manor[]
Ever since the destruction of the old manor, the Emilia Camp has primarily resided at the new Roswaal Manor. A year after the previous manor’s burning, the Camp met with a representative of the Anastasia Camp, Joshua Juukulius, who invited Emilia to the Water Gate City of Priestella. While Emilia’s group left for the city, Roswaal took Petra to a conference with the other nobles of the Mathers Domain. Approximately a month later, everyone returned, with Emilia’s group bringing along Anastasia Hoshin, who was controlled by Eridna at the time, and Julius Juukulius, who had his name eaten. Informing Roswaal of their intentions, Emilia, Subaru, Beatrice, Ram, Rem, Meili, Julius, and Eridna left for the Pleiades Watchtower, leaving Roswaal, Petra, and Frederica to watch over the manor.
Shortly after the events at the Watchtower, everyone in the group sans Subaru and Rem had returned to the manor to inform Roswaal of the missing Subaru’s predicament. Taking this matter with the utmost seriousness, everyone left the manor to prepare to leave for Vollachia, leaving Meili with Annerose Miload to go to the Royal Capital and having Clind take his group to retrieve Otto and Garfiel.
After the events of the Great Disaster, Rem and Ram returned to the manor while the others went elsewhere.

Trivia[]
- Until three months before the start of story, the manor had many servants. However, according to Frederica, Roswaal sent them–including her–on leave in order to prepare for the troubles the Royal Selection would bring.
