Hayden Garo (ヘイデン・ガロ) is a demi-human separatist in the Kingdom of Lugunica.
Appearance[]
Hayden is a wild-looking man with slicked-back, dark blonde hair, a well-groomed beard, and blue eyes. He has a tall, strong frame, as well as sharp nails and teeth. In addition, Hayden has a scar in the form of a claw mark above his left eye that was carved onto him by Frederica’s fingernails.
Personality[]
Hayden is a conceited and belligerent man who prides himself on his rare blood. He has a rigid, domineering personality, unshakeable beliefs, and the tendency to utilize force when he does not have his way. For unknown reasons, Hayden utterly despises humans, going so far as to dub them “inferiors”. His ambition is to create a country where all humans are exterminated and he is crowned king. He also has a habit of meticulously filing his nails.
After discovering Frederica possessed rare blood and meeting with her, Hayden began to desire her not only for her blood but also for her body, strong-willed spirit, and judiciousness, offering her compliments on each of these traits. In spite of his craving for her, he was unwilling to tolerate when she spoke her mind and disagreed with his mindset toward humans.
History[]
Born as a halfbeast demi-human with rare blood, Hayden would eventually come to determine that humans were inferior beings who needed to be exterminated, and he sought to take the places of the demi-human leaders in the Demi-Human War and create a new nation in his image where he would be king. To achieve this, he started working with Leonardo Baroness to discover the secrets of rare blood. One day, Hayden found Frederica Baumann, a fellow halfbeast who also had rare blood, and plotted with Leonardo to manipulate the lightbugs of Costuul and orchestrate an incident in the city that allowed him to kidnap her for his plans.
Hayden briefly met Frederica near of one of Costuul's magicreation tool factories and caused a lightbug within a magicreation tool to go haywire. When Frederica and Garfiel reported the incident to Mayor Leno Rex, he caused the collapse of the city hall with a lightbug using a larger magicreation tool and successfully kidnapped Frederica when she was alone, taking her to a cave he and Leonardo had made as their base. He then divulged both his philosophy his reason for kidnapping Frederica to her and planned to take her back to his “castle” once Leonardo finished working with her blood. However, the duo was interrupted by Clind and Garfiel Tinzel, who discovered the cave by pursuing a trail of blood Frederica left. Hayden and Garfiel fought, ending in the former’s loss. Following his loss to Garfiel, Hayden escaped from the cave where the two had battled and made himself known to Frederica when she was by herself, admitting to her that although he would retreat for the day, he intended on returning so as long as she continued to participate with her camp in the Royal Selection.[1] He proceeded to make his escape, but not before allowing Frederica to scar the region above his left eye as a token of gratitude for remembering his name.
Abilities[]
Beastification (獣化, Kemonoka): As a halfbeast of lion human lineage, Hayden has the ability to transform himself into a large lion beast.
Trivia[]
- Hayden claims to possess a “castle”.[2] However, the location of this supposed castle is unknown.
- In the original Comic Alive release of Golden Siblings Part 2, Leonardo hired Hayden as a goon by promising the lionman would receive some of Frederica's rare blood in return for helping him acquire her. Hayden's motivations, position relative to Leonardo, and overall presence throughout Golden Siblings were greatly elaborated, changed, and expanded in Re:Zero Tanpenshuu Volume 9. In the end, rather than escaping before he could be taken into custody like he was in the canon version of the side story, he was defeated by Frederica.
