This page is about the story arc. For the character, see Vincent Vollachia.
Vincent Vollachia (ヴィンセント・ヴォラキア, Vinsento Vorakia) is the eighth arc of Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu. It is preceded by Arc 7, The Land of Wolves, and followed by Arc 9, Light of the Nameless Star. In the web novel, the first chapter of Arc 8 was released on April 13, 2023, and its last chapter was released on June 3, 2024. It consists of seventy-five chapters and one interlude in the web novel, and it has five light novel volumes.
At the denouement of the Battle for the Imperial Capital, the curtain for the Great Disaster rises. As those who died in the Sacred Vollachia Empire continue to pile up and rise, Vincent Vollachia issues an order to retreat to the northwestern Fortified City of Garkla. Meanwhile, Natsuki Subaru, his allies, and his enemy, Todd Fang, retreat from Lupugana together. Along the way, they eliminate numerous undead beings, dubbed “zombies”, until a betrayal occurs, causing Emilia and Rem to intervene with the situation. After Subaru loses consciousness, he awakes in a dragon carriage leaving the Imperial Capital, finding himself face-to-face with his friends in the Emilia Camp, the Pleiades Battalion, and Vincent, the man who once called himself Abel. After resolving the discrepancies in their relationship, they and their allies begin working towards ending the destruction caused by the undead army and its commander.
Due to Izmail's altered death in Volume 32, he is no longer motivated by his personal hatred of Todd. He instead seeks to find the “fool who disgraced the battlefield” by making prisoners dress like soldiers.
Izmail meets Todd for the first time and discovers that he has a blue light.
The fatal wounds of zombies are no longer said to be near their hearts, since it is later established that each one has different parts of their body that can shatter them if they sustain substantial damage there.
Interlude
The corresponding web novel chapter is changed into an interlude which takes place after Chapter 2.
A new line saying that “Todd had clashed with Natsuki Subaru many times” and “never got along with him to the very end” was added.
Chapter 3
The number of dead people following behind Sphinx is specified to more than one thousand, rather than a “great number”.
The corresponding web novel chapter is changed into an interlude which takes place after Chapter 3.
Chapter 6
The chapter title from the corresponding web novel chapter was changed from “To Each Their Long-Cherished Desires” to “I Have Business With Those Tears”.
The two sections of the web novel version of Volume 36's interlude that were not adapted into the light novel are included here.
Chapter 7
A line of narration which postulated that undead would likely be unable to display half of their true strength were they to be made into Sphinx's subservient servants without being granted free will to an extent was removed.
When informing Medium that only those who died in the Vollachia Empire could be resurrected as undead, Balleroy adds that to expand the scope beyond the Empire, they would first need to destroy it and then create magic circles in the Kingdom of Lugunica and the Kararagi City-States, though he expressed uncertainty when saying this.
An extra "prologue" named after Aldebaran that is not in the web novel is featured at the end of the volume.
Trivia[]
In promotional material, Arc 8 is known as the Great Disaster arc (大災編, Taisai-hen).
Arc 8 was originally meant to be within Arc 7. However, the author decided to split Arc 7 in two, creating an additional arc outside of his original plan for 11 arcs.
Previously, the author affirmed that Garfiel Tinzel's named chapter would be in Arc 7.[1] However, even after the arc split, it was moved to a future arc.
The arc is named after Vincent Vollachia, making him the first and only character featured in the story thus far to have an arc named after them.
