Maurice Blanchard Cohill, Jr. was a federal judge with the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 1976 after being nominated by President Gerald Ford. Cohill assumed senior status on November 28, 1994. His service ended on January 1, 2022, due to death.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cohill graduated from Princeton University with his bachelor's degree in 1951 and from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law with his LL.B. in 1956.[1]
Military service
Cohill served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953.[1]

Judicial career
Western District of Pennsylvania
Cohill was nominated by President Gerald Ford on May 4, 1976, to a seat vacated by Louis Rosenberg. Cohill was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 18, 1976, and he received his commission on May 21, 1976. Cohill served as the chief judge of the court from 1985 to 1992. He elected to take senior status beginning on November 28, 1994. His service ended when he died on January 1, 2022.[1] Cohill was succeeded in this position by Judge Arthur Schwab.
