Michael R. Murphy is a federal judge on senior status with the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. He joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton.

Early life and education

Murphy earned his B.A. from Creighton University in 1969 and his J.D. from the University of Wyoming in 1972.

Murphy was nominated by President Bill Clinton on July 25, 1995, to a seat vacated by Judge Monroe McKay as McKay assumed senior status. The American Bar Association rated Murphy Unanimously Well Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Murphy's nomination were held on August 3, 1995, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) the next day. Murphy was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on August 11, 1995, and he received his commission on August 14, 1995. Murphy assumed senior status on the court on December 31, 2012. He was succeeded on the court by Judge Carolyn McHugh.
