Orie Leon Phillips was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico. He served on the Tenth Circuit from 1929 to 1974, and on the District of New Mexico from 1923 to 1929.[1]
Education
Phillips received a J.D. degree from University of Michigan Law School in 1908.[1]

- 1912-1916: Assistant district attorney, New Mexico Eighth Judicial District Court

Judicial career
Tenth Circuit
Phillips was nominated to the Tenth Circuit by President Herbert Hoover on April 18, 1929, to a new seat created by 45 Stat. 1346. He was confirmed by the Senate on April 29, 1929, and received commission that same day. From 1948 to 1956, he was the chief judge. On January 1, 1956, he assumed senior status. Phillips served on this court until his death on November 14, 1974.[1]
District of New Mexico
Phillips was nominated to the District of New Mexico by President Warren Harding on February 28, 1923, to a new seat created by 42 Stat. 837. He was confirmed by the Senate on March 3, 1923, and received commission that same day. Phillips served on this court until April 29, 1929, when he was appointed to the Tenth Circuit.[1]
