Pain Peppers are extremely hot peppers cultivated and stocked by Hop Pop. According to Sprig, they are "so hot they make you wish you were dead".

They look similar to Red Habanero peppers. When in storage, they sit in a red, bubbling liquid. Scattered across the wrinkly surface are small "warts." Their stalks are short and dull green.

In "Best Fronds", Sprig suggests trying some of Hop Pop's Pain Peppers as a fun activity to bond with a homesick Anne. As Sprig tries one, his mouth emits fire from the extremely hot taste and he desperately washes his mouth out with water from the sink and pounds a vase on his tongue to get rid of the spice. Anne doesn't want to participate in this activity and would much rather go to the lake. Later when Sprig is about to be eaten by a snake in the water, he manages to escape by putting a Pain Pepper in the snake's mouth to get it to spit him out.
In "Family Fishing Trip", Sprig is jealous of Sylvia for stealing all the time Hop Pop could be spending with him on the fishing trip, so he attempts to foil their bond by making sandwiches for the two of them and puts Pain Peppers on Sylvia's sandwich, causing her to breathe fire onto Sprig.
