Zombies, referred to as the Undead, are a Survival-exclusive pedestrian type appearing in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the continuation of the Bottom Dollar Bounties update.
Description[]
3D Universe[]
Zombie are first referenced in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, alluding to how zombies were portrayed in mainstream zombie movies in the 1980s. They are referenced through InterGlobal Studios productions in both titles.
InterGlobal Studios actors wearing zombie make-up are featured in the mission Brawn of the Dead in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, where Victor Vance acts as a stunt actor in a zombie movie being recorded at the North Point Mall.
In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, a supposed "zombie lab" named Zombotech Corporation is located in Downtown San Fierro. In-game dialogue suggests this building is canonically a hotel, with the zombie references simply being an Easter egg.
HD Universe[]
In Grand Theft Auto IV multiplayer, players can unlock a "Rockstar Zombie" outfit for the male multiplayer character, with unique zombie growling sounds replacing the character's dialogue.
Classic zombie movie references return in Grand Theft Auto V, referencing in-universe Vinewood films from the 1980s. A character named Graham can be found cosplaying as a character from Vinewood Zombie.
In Grand Theft Auto Online, zombie pedestrians are introduced in the Bottom Dollar Bounties update to be used as enemies in the Ludendorff Cemetery Survival mode set in the Ludendorff Church and Cemetery. They are also featured in the Money Fronts update as enemies in the Cayo Perico Survival mode set on the Caribbean island Cayo Perico. Both survivals have no relation to GTA Online's canonical storyline whatsoever.
As of the Halloween 2024 (Week 4) event, Zombie pedestrians are made available in the Survival Creator for players to create their own Zombie-based Survivals.
