Denise Clinton is a supporting character appearing in Grand Theft Auto V.
She is voiced by Janet Hubert.
History[]
Background[]
Denise is Franklin Clinton's maternal aunt. She and Franklin live in a house in Strawberry, but the two have a tense and occasionally volatile relationship. At some point, she became heavily involved with feminism.
Events of Grand Theft Auto V[]
As Franklin gets home from repoing cars with his friend, Lamar Davis, she is lying on the couch and tells him to go away when he enters the living room. She later tries to go on a feminist "spirit walk" with one of her friends, but is out of shape, having a hard time keeping up. Later on, Franklin walks into his living room where Denise and a few of her feminist friends are making orgasmic sounds and stretching their pelvises out. Denise, annoyed at Franklin, tells him to leave and stay out of trouble.
Eventually, she and Lamar confront Franklin, telling him to stop ignoring his friends in the hood and hanging out with old men, instead, referring to Franklin's new mentor, Michael De Santa. During this confrontation, Franklin's new friend, Trevor Philips arrives, at first complimenting Denise and giving her money, but then insulting her, when she complains that he only gave her $7, calling her a "greedy fucking cow". She walks back into her house, proclaiming that all men are the same.
After Franklin moves into a house in Vinewood Hills, bought for him by his associate, Lester Crest, she emails him, letting him know that she was turning their house into a women's center, chastising his lack of mentioning anything about his new house to her and his choice of moving to a nice area, and claiming that her sister made a mistake having Franklin. Franklin, reasonably upset, replies, telling her not to make their house into a women's center and to not speak about his mother that way, saying that her only mistake was giving her a home and to stay away from him.
Later, Franklin briefly returns to his old home and sees Denise with two of her feminist friends going on another "spirit walk", while chanting. Trevor, who is walking by, tells them to "shut the fuck up", which they promptly do and slowly walk away.
Afterwards, Franklin tries to come back inside his old house, the door will be locked and she refuses to let him in, despite the fact that he is still legally the co-owner, and yells at Franklin from inside to leave.
After the events of Grand Theft Auto V[]
As mentioned by Franklin Clinton and Lamar Davis during The Contract update for Grand Theft Auto Online, Denise still resides in Strawberry in 2021.

Personality[]
Denise and her nephew Franklin have a rocky relationship. Denise views Franklin as lacking ambition, and wants him to move out, often showing distaste for him, at one point referring to him as the one mistake her sister ever made. Franklin, for his part, looks down on her for her shoddy housekeeping and feminist views.
She identifies herself as a "new age feminist" and holds feminist group meetings at the house, frequently badmouthing Franklin in front of her friends when she gets the chance. She is seen on multiple occasions leading "spirit walks" with her friends, which involves chanting feminist phrases during cardio exercise. Her brand of spiritual feminism is sex-obsessed; the yoga routines she and her friends do involve orgiastic moans, and much of her 'philosophy' is about the importance of pelvic strength.
She appears to be entitled, as seen how she often tells Franklin to leave his own house, and when she annoyedly remarks that Trevor gave her money as a gift, it was only $7.

Trivia[]
- Earlier in development Denise had a very different appearance. She had a different hairstyle and wore glasses, green hoop earrings, a pair of sandals, and a green hoodie representing the Families. She can be seen with this beta appearance in Franklin's trailer on the GTA V site.
- On her Lifeinvader page, Denise posts, "No wonder I never get a second date with that boy walking in every time I have a man home for coffee.", a reference to the controversial Hot Coffee mod for GTA San Andreas.
- It is hinted that Lamar Davis has a crush on Denise, as he constantly refers to her looks, much to Franklin's disgust.
- It is later implied that they had sex on Franklin's bed.
- If Michael or Trevor fires their weapon in front of the house, she can be heard yelling inside. If they continue, Franklin will call or text, telling them to stop.
- If Denise is "killed", $5,000 will be withdrawn from the player's bank account and she will message the player, asking what is wrong with them.
- It is possible for any of the protagonists to "kill" Denise by shooting a rocket or throwing an explosive at the front window of Franklin's old house. If "killed" by Michael or Trevor, just like Franklin, $5000 will be taken from their bank account and she will message them, even though she never met Michael and barely met Trevor.
