Mark Jordan, better known as DJ Pooh, is an American record producer, voice actor, rapper, actor, screenwriter and film director. He appears as a radio host for West Coast Classics radio station in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, and a minor character in both The Cayo Perico Heist and The Contract updates for Grand Theft Auto Online.
History[]
Background[]
DJ Pooh is the host of West Coast Classics, a classic hip-hop radio station from the incorporated city of Davis, Los Santos County, established circa 2013, shortly before the events of Grand Theft Auto V.
Events of Grand Theft Auto Online[]
The Cayo Perico Heist[]
Pooh makes a cameo appearance in The Cayo Perico Heist update for Grand Theft Auto Online, set in 2020, during the Heist Prep: Gather Intel mission introductory cutscene with Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. As the GTA Online Protagonist and English Dave are about to board the plane with Keinemusik, they pull up to the airport hangar. They were supposed to join Juan Strickler's party in Cayo Perico and more of their entourage were supposed to follow in Dr. Dre's car, but when they hear it was stolen at Iovine's house with his phone full of important data including unreleased music, they cancel their trip. Before leaving the airport, Pooh expressed his disappointment that he wasn't able to participate in the party. Pooh organized Scott Storch to take their place.
The Contract[]
In December 2021, Pooh contacts Franklin Clinton, owner of the F. Clinton and Partner "celebrity solutions agency", and asks the GTA Online Protagonist to retrieve Dr. Dre's phone, which was stolen shortly before the flight to Cayo Perico a year ago.
They meet Pooh at the Los Santos Golf Club, and he introduces Franklin and the protagonist to Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. Just as introductions are made, the group is interrupted by two golfers Eugene and Raymond asking to play through, as they are blocking one of the course's holes. Dre refuses to allow them through, which causes the two golfers to threaten Dre and the group with a golf course ban, as one of their wives is "having an affair with the owner" and therefore has connections.
Once the two storm off, Dre asks Franklin and the protagonist to prove themselves by dealing with the two golfers. They agree, and jump in a golf cart to begin a pursuit, ending up with one of the golfers being beat down with a golf club by the GTA Online Protagonist until he agrees to resign his own membership and drop any action against Dre, and Dre hiring F. Clinton & Partner to search for his lost cell phone.
After a while, the agency hacker Imani finds out that Johnny Guns from WesLos Records is the one resposable for stealing Dre's phone and all the unreleased music leaks that happened. Soon after, Johnny Guns and his men had broken into Dr. Dre's recording studio and sieged Dre inside his central studio. The protagonist kills all of the enemies outside the building before entering and doing the same inside. Once the fighting is over, DJ Pooh hides all the dead bodies.
After Dre and the protagonist deals with Johnny Guns, DJ Pooh invites the GTA Online Protagonist (and an associate), Franklin Clinton and Lamar Davis for a tour inside Dr. Dre's recording studios. Lamar attempts to make his own rap with a beat DJ Pooh provides him, while the GTA Online Protagonist and his associate takes a smoke in the room next door. Before Franklin is about to smoke, Lamar refers to Tanisha getting annoyed if he gets high, implying that they are married. When Franklin and Lamar checks out on their partners however, they become so high that they "experienced an out-of-body experience". They leave the recording studio to attend business and asks DJ Pooh to look after the protagonists while they are high on Lamar's weed.
In Real Life[]
Jordan was born in June 29, 1969, in Los Angeles, California. His career dates back to 1986. He is known for being the writer of the 1995 film Friday. He usually collaborates with the rapper Ice Cube.
DJ Pooh is credited as co-producer and writer of Rockstar Games's 2004 game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. He is also the one who brought the rapper Young Maylay to voice the lead character, Carl Johnson. Pooh returns as the host of the West Coast Classics radio station in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.
DJ Pooh has always been good friends with the voice actor of GTA V protagonist Franklin Clinton, Shawn Fonteno, appearing in the films The Wash and 3 Strikes with him. DJ Pooh called Fonteno one day asking him to audition for a videogame he was working on with Rockstar Games. Fonteno hesitated, but agreed based on how good Pooh's word had been in the past. Fonteno would pass the audition and go on to star as Franklin Clinton in GTA V and later GTA Online.[1]
DJ Pooh has since been called Rockstar's "go to guy when dealing with urban or black characters" in their games by Shawn Fonteno.[2]
