Samuel H. Bell is a former Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He joined the court in 1982 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.

Early life and education

A native of Rochester, NY received his bachelor's degree from the College of Wooster in 1947 and received his juris doctor degree from the University of Akron School of Law in 1952.[1]

Professional career

After law school, Bell was a Private practice laywer in the Cleveland suburb of Cuyahoga Falls from 1956 to 1968. Also, Bell served during his private practice tenure as a part-time Assistant County Prosecutor for Summit County from 1957 to 1959 and was appointed by Ohio Governor William O'Neill as Special counsel for the Ohio Attorney General from 1959 to 1966, and was also a Assistant solicitor and special trial counsel for the City of Tallmadge, OH from 1963 to 1965. Bell began his judicial career in 1968 as a Municpal Court judge for Cuyahoga Falls until 1973, he became a Common Pleas Judge for Summit County until 1977. In 1977, Bell was elected by the people of Ohio a Judge for the Ninth District of the Ohio District Courts of Appeal and served on the Court of Appeals till his appointment to the Federal bench in 1982.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Ohio

Bell was nominated by Ronald Reagan on November 23, 1982 to a seat vacated by Robert B. Krupansky as Krupansky retired. Bell was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 21, 1982 on a senate vote and received commission on December 22, 1982. Bell later assumed senior status on October 30, 1996. Bell's service ended with his passing on December 23, 2010.[1]
