George White was an Article III judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He joined the court in 1980 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. White was serving on senior status until the time of his death on November 12, 2011.[1]

Education

White graduated from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law with his J.D. degree in 1955.[1]

Professional career

White was a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Ohio from 1956 to 1968. He also served as a referee in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas from 1957 to 1962 and also served as city councilman for the City of Cleveland from 1963 to 1968. In 1968, White joined the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, where he served until joining the federal court in 1980.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Northern District of Ohio

Potter was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on March 28, 1980, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629. White was confirmed by the Senate on May 21, 1980, and received commission on May 23, 1980. White served as the chief judge of the Northern District of Ohio from 1995 to 1999 before later assuming senior status on February 26, 1999. White passed away while serving the bench on November 12, 2011.[1]
