This Much (also known as Keep It Together) is a recurring challenge from Survivor.
The challenge originally debuted as a tribal challenge in Koh-Lanta; this format has since appeared in two international franchises under the name Chain Reaction.
Rules[]
With their arms outstretched, the castaways must support two discs against two posts with only their fingertips. If they drop their discs, they are out of the challenge. The last person left standing wins immunity.
In Kaôh Rōng, the discs were weighted down by ceramic pots, while in Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, the discs were weighted by brass wind chimes. The discs were also noticeably larger in comparison to their Kaôh Rōng counterparts.
History[]
United States[]
The challenge debuted in Kaôh Rōng, where the final eight competed for immunity. After over an hour and fifteen minutes, Kyle Jason outlasted Aubry Bracco to win immunity.
The challenge was later used in Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, where the final seven competed for immunity. Ashley Nolan emerged victorious after she and Devon Pinto negotiated who would win in exchange for a shoulder massage.
The challenge reappeared in Survivor 45 as the final round of Different Stages, where the team of Bruce Perreault, Julie Alley, and Kendra McQuarrie earned the right to compete. The challenge came down to a showdown between Bruce and Julie, with the former outlasting the latter to win his second consecutive Immunity Challenge.
Australia[]
The tribal variant of this challenge appeared in Australian Survivor (2017) as an Immunity Challenge. It eventually came down to a showdown between Mark Wales and Henry Nicholson for Asaga and AK Knight and Ziggy Zagame for Samatau, with Mark and Henry emerging victorious after several hours.
Champions v Contenders (2018) introduced a variation of the individual version of the challenge. Instead of stretching out their hands, members of the Koro Savu tribe had to clasp a weighted disc between their hands. The last person left standing, Sharn Coombes, won the challenge.
France[]
Koh-Lanta: Caramoan saw the introduction of the tribal format of the challenge, where tribe members would stand in a chain while holding up discs, with the last pair standing winning immunity for the tribe. Tayak won the challenge.
New Zealand[]
South Africa[]
In Santa Carolina, the challenge appeared as the final seven Immunity Challenge. Instead of pushing against weighted discs, the Kululama tribe had to maintain contact with three pairs of discs, each progressively higher than the last, with the final pair of discs requiring the contestants to keep their hands above their heads. Additionally, at one point in the challenge, host Nico Panagio gave the contestants 15 seconds to decide whether to forfeit the challenge to receive a clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol. Only Kaseran Pillay took the offer. In the end, after 20 minutes, Ashley Hayden defeated GiGi van Schalkwyk to win her first individual Immunity Challenge.
In Philippines, the tribal format of the challenge was used ahead of the Double Tribal Council, with only one tribe winning immunity. Katinka Oosthuizen dropped the last disc for Mindanao first, taking the tribe out of the challenge. Then, about an hour into the challenge, Toni Tebbutt and Werner Joubert dropped the last disc for Luzon, allowing Palesa Tau and Tom Swartz to win immunity and a burger feast for Visayas.
