Rung O Star (also known as Spiral Architect) is a recurring challenge of Survivor.

Rules

Starting on a platform in the ocean, the castaways must swim out and retrieve a ladder from the seabed. While their teammates prop up the ladder, one castaway will climb the ladder to retrieve bags from an elevated pole. The team will then race back to shore to complete a final task.

History

The challenge debuted in Island of the Idols as the second Immunity Challenge. After collecting their bags, the tribes will race to land three balls in a Plinko-style gameboard. Lairo won their first challenge, sending Vokai to Tribal Council.

The challenge reappeared as the third Immunity Challenge in Survivor 42. After collecting a key from the pole in the ocean, the tribes will race back to shore and use their ladder to retrieve a bag of sandbags from a second pole. The first two tribes to land one sandbag on each of five elevated targets win. Due to the particularly turbulent state of the ocean, the challenge proved especially challenging. Jonathan Young leveraged his strength to carry Taku to an easy first-place finish, after which Jeff Probst called off the ocean portion of the challenge. Ika and Vati then resumed the challenge from the shore portion; after a close battle, Ika ultimately won, sending Vati to Tribal Council.
