Stomp-ede (also known as Tribal Stomp-ede, Walk On Water, and Tromp Stomp) is a recurring challenge of Survivor.
Rules[]
Each castaway or tribe is given several items and instructed to stomp on a plank of wood, catapulting one item at a time into a basket atop a tower. The first person/tribe to land all items in the basket would be the winner.
History[]
United States[]
In Africa, the challenge was used in the merge phase of the game. Ethan won and chose Lex to go with him to a village and exchange two goats for any items they wanted.
In All-Stars, the challenge was used in the tribal phase of the game and instead of being every man for himself, one member from each tribe would have their turn. The tribe that could land six items in the basket wins. Chapera had a brief lead at the start but lost it when Jenna had trouble getting their second item in the basket. Mogo Mogo won and as a reward, took all the items they put in the basket.
In Samoa, the castaways would swim out into the ocean to retrieve one of three bags. They would then swim back and have to launch the bag up into a basket on top of a tower by jumping on a plank setup like a seesaw. The first castaway to get their three bags into the basket would win. Brett finished first and won immunity.
The challenge re-appeared as a Hero Duel in San Juan del Sur. One representative of each tribe had to use a grappling hook to retrieve three bags of balls. Once they had the balls, they had use a catapult to launch those balls into a series of five baskets. The first contestant to land one ball in each basked would win the challenge. The challenge was close, but Jon beat out his girlfriend Jaclyn in the end to win reward for Hunahpu and send her to Exile Island.
In Cambodia, the challenge was held as a "hero" Reward Challenge, where each tribe had to chose one of their members to compete the challenge by themselves. Andrew was chosen to compete for Angkor, Jeremy was chosen by Bayon, and Terry was the competitor for Ta Keo. After a grueling race, Andrew ultimately won for Angkor, and Terry claimed second place for Ta Keo.
Australia[]
In Brains v Brawn (2021), the challenge appeared as the first individual Reward Challenge after the merge. The final thirteen would start by digging up a bag of sandbags before stomping on a catapult to land one sandbag on two of three platform targets. The first person to do so gets to choose their meal from the merge buffet first; this continues on a first-come-first-serve basis until all thirteen items on the buffet have been taken. George Mladenov finished the challenge first and selected the cheeseburger, fries and cola, while Gerald Youles and Kez McGee were the last two contestants left. They chose to end the challenge early, with Gerald giving Kez the first pick between banana and a bottle of milk.
New Zealand[]
Quebec[]
The Tromp Stomp variant of the challenge from Survivor: San Juan del Sur appeared as the third Redemption Island duel in Survivor Québec (2023). Nicolas Brunette and Sylvain Béland extended their winning streak, staying alive in the game and eliminating challenger Maryse Lauzon.
Russia (Unofficial)[]
In Serdtse Afriki the challenge was a Reward Challenge. One tribe member at a time uses an adjustable seesaw beneath a tower to catapult eight assorted items into a basket atop the tower. Sand won and as a reward, took all the items they put in the basket.
