New Tribe Member (also known as Gulliver's Travels and Lizard King) is a recurring team challenge which debuted in Survivor: Thailand. It has since appeared in Survivor: Nicaragua and Survivor 46.
The tribes would have to untie a giant dummy (acting as their "new tribe member"). The tribes must then carry the dummy through an obstacle course. The first tribe to cross the finish line with their dummy wins.
History[]
The challenge debuted as a Reward Challenge in Thailand. Prior to the challenge, the tribes designed their own giant dummy, which they would carry across the island. Sook Jai won the challenge for ripe bananas and chickens.
The challenge re-appeared as a Reward Challenge in Nicaragua. The nine castaways were split into two teams of four for this challenge, with one person not being picked. The first team to navigate their dummy (known as "Gulliver") across the island won a trip to the Survivor cinema for a screening of Gulliver's Travels. The team of Benry Henry, Chase Rice, Holly Hoffman, and NaOnka Mixon won the challenge. Notably, despite previously expressing her desire to quit the game, NaOnka controversially opted not to relinquish her reward in exchange for rice for the tribe.
The challenge appeared 25 seasons later as the inaugural Immunity Challenge of Survivor 46. The tribes had to guide a giant 15-foot-long, 500-pound gecko over a wall, through a tunnel, and up a slope before two members assembled a jigsaw puzzle. Nami made quick work of the obstacle course and subsequently the puzzle to clinch victory. Siga was able to secure a second-place victory, leaving the hapless Yanu tribe with a trip to Tribal Council.
