Blue Lagoon Bustle is a recurring challenge on Survivor.
Rules[]
Tribes must race out into the water and swim through a series of obstacles (a net crawl, a barrel roll, and crate staircase) to retrieve an item, then paddle back to shore. A select number of players from each tribe must then finish a final task on shore. The first tribe to complete the final task wins.
In Game Changers and Winners at War, the order of tasks in the water was reversed, instead having to first paddle out to retrieve the item, and go through the obstacles to get back to shore. In Survivor 46, the paddling component was removed entirely.
In Blood vs. Water and Game Changers, the final task was for three selected tribe members to complete a puzzle in the form of a captain's wheel. In Winners at War, the final task was for two tribe members to throw rings at a series of targets. In Survivor 46, the tribes had to land one sandbag on each of five ascending targets.
History[]
The challenge debuted in Blood vs. Water as the first Reward/Immunity Challenge. Six members of each tribe had to go through the course in the water, untie their boat, and paddle back to shore, where the last three members had to solve the captain's wheel puzzle. Gervase Peterson struggled to swim, giving Tadhana a huge lead on the puzzle. However, the lead was squandered by Tadhana's puzzle team, as Galang was able to work efficiently, winning immunity and sending Tadhana to Tribal Council.
This challenge reappeared as the first Immunity Challenge in Game Changers. Seven members of each tribe had to paddle to a platform in the water, after which one of them must swim out to retrieve keys. They then had to go through the obstacles to get back to shore where two of them had to dig up two bags of puzzle pieces. The eighth member then had to use the keys to unlock the last bag of puzzle pieces, after which the last two members solve the captain's wheel puzzle. The tribes were relatively even throughout the challenge, but Nuku was able to edge ahead at the puzzle to win immunity, sending Mana to Tribal Council.
The challenge was again used as an Immunity Challenge in Winners at War. All nine members of each tribe had to paddle out and collect a bag of numbers before going through the obstacles to head back to shore. Once back on shore, one member had to use the numbers in the bag to solve a number combination to unlock three rings, which two members had to throw at three targets. Dakal took a massive lead heading into the final task after Sele struggled with the barrel roll, but Jeremy Collins was able to land the rings with ease to allow Sele to win immunity and send Dakal to their first Tribal Council.
The challenge appeared as the third Immunity Challenge of Survivor 46; after completing the obstacle course, the first two tribes to land one sandbag on each of five elevated targets would win. Nami fell into a dire position as their rivals Siga and Yanu surged ahead. However, once Nami reached shore, Hunter McKnight's aptitude with the sandbag toss singlehandedly allowed his tribe to stage a comeback as he landed all five sandbags before their opponents even managed to hit their first target. The challenge came down to a close match between Siga's Charlie Davis and Yanu's Q Burdette, with Charlie landing Siga's fifth sandbag first and sending a despairing Yanu back to Tribal Council.
