Tangled Up (also known as Knot Your Fault, Tangled Up in Blue, and Tangled Up Sled Slide) is a recurring challenge of Survivor.
Rules[]
The members of each team will be attached to a braided rope, which they must work together to unravel. Once the rope is completely unraveled, they must complete a final task.
History[]
United States[]
This challenge first appeared as a post-merge Reward Challenge in Kaôh Rōng, where after unbraiding the rope, they had to throw sandbags to knock blocks off a table. The Dara tribe was instructed to divide themselves into two teams of four, with Joe del Campo sitting out and Julia Sokolowski controversially breaching the gender divide to join the team of Kyle Jason, Scot Pollard, and Tai Trang. Joe was also allowed to bet on the winning team; he placed his bet on the all-female team, but lost the bet when Jason, Julia, Scot, and Tai won the challenge.
In Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, it was the first Reward Challenge after the Tribe Switch, where only the first tribe to finish would win peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. After unraveling the ropes, one player would have to use a rope to lasso and pull in a sled containing puzzle pieces. The three tribes were close until the vertical puzzle, where Yawa's communication skills earned them the win over Levu and Soko.
In David vs. Goliath, the challenge was used as the third Immunity Challenge. In the first stage, one member would have to traverse a fence obstacle similar to the first round of Rope-a-Dope in Heroes vs. Villains. In the second stage, three members would would have to work together untangle three ropes. In the third stage, two members would use the ropes to lasso and pull in a platform on which the last two members would build a pyramid puzzle. David and Goliath were neck-and-neck in the challenge, but David ultimately edged out Goliath in finishing their puzzle to win immunity, sending Goliath to their first Tribal Council.
In Survivor 42, the challenge was used as the second tribal Reward Challenge; only the first-placing team would win ten fish as the reward. The challenge started with three tribe members untangling the rope, after which each of the four competing members would have to shoot one ball into a hoop to win. Jonathan Young led Taku throughout the entirety of the challenge. By the time Ika and Vati completed their rope portions, Taku had already scored their fourth ball to win reward.
Australia[]
The challenge appeared as the sixth Reward Challenge in Brains v Brawn (2021). The tribes had to maneuver through two obstacles; once the last tribe member reached the finish, they would pass their tribe a key to unlock a box of sandbags, which two tribe members will throw to break six pots. As Cara Atchison, George Mladenov, and Wai Chim struggled with the ropes, Brawn pulled away. However, the Brains came from behind to tie the score 5-5 before Emmett Pugh broke the last pot for Brawn and snatched victory away from the Brains yet again.
