Breaking Ranks is the fourth of the Project Overthrow missions featured in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the San Andreas Mercenaries update.
Description[]
The player spawns in their Avenger flying over Vinewood Hills, Los Santos, as Charlie briefs the player on the plan to intercept Merryweather as they attempt to move crates of tech from their secondary base in Grapeseed back to their HQ.
The player lands their Avenger at McKenzie Field before making their way a short distance to the nearby Skiver Construction Corporation site in Grapeseed. Once there, they take out the Merryweather guards outside the warehouse stealthily, by guns blazing or by utilizing the Avenger's onboard weapons, and make their way inside.
Inside the warehouse, the player locates four tech crates while continuing to take out any guards inside. The crates can be found on shelves around the interior. Once all crates have been taken, the player is instructed to load them onto a Rumpo Custom van and then drive the van back to the Avenger.
Unfortunately, even without having raised the alarm, an airstrike is called in by Merryweather which destroys the Avenger, leading Charlie to conclude that they had the place under surveillance. The player is forced to drive their way back to the LSA Lockup while evading Merryweather reinforcements in Mesas, two roadblocks along the highway with Insurgents, and the P-996 LAZER fighter jet's airstrike attempt by driving at high speed. When passing through Sandy Shores Airfield, Rooster McCraw, piloting a Buzzard Attack Chopper, will hover over the player with a lock-on jammer, preventing the fighter jet from targeting the player. This leaves only the Mesas and any remaining roadblocks to worry about.
Once the player enters the city limits of Los Santos, Merryweather will back off due to having to avoid unnecessary casualties from airstriking in a densely populated area, and Charlie hypothesizes that they must be running out of ammunition. This allows the player to freely deliver the Rumpo Custom to the lockup to complete the mission.

Mission Objectives[]
- Fly to McKenzie Airfield.
- Land the Avenger at McKenzie Airfield.
- Go to the Merryweather warehouse.
- Take out the Merryweather guards.
- Search the warehouse for the Merryweather crates.
- Deliver the Merryweather crates to the Rumpo.
- Deliver the Rumpo to the Avenger.
- Deliver the tech to the LSA Lockup.
