Stephen M. McNamee is a Federal District Judge for the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. He joined the court in 1990 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush.[1]

Early life and education

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, McNamee graduated from the University of Cincinnati with his bachelor's degree in 1964 and later from the University of Arizona with his Master's degree in 1967. McNamee obtained his J.D. degree in 1969 from the University of Arizona.[1]

Professional career

From 1969 to 1971, McNamee was an attorney at the Florsheim Shoe Company. From 1971 to 1985, McNamee served as U.S. Assistant District Attorney for the District of Arizona. McNamee also served as a Lecturer in the College of Business at the University of Arizona from 1975 to 1979. In 1985, on the recommendation of U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater, McNamee was nominated by President Ronald Reagan to U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona from 1985 to 1990.[1]

Judicial career

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator John McCain, McNamee was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Arizona by President George Bush on February 20, 1990 to a seat vacated by Charles Hardy as Hardy assumed senior status. McNamee was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 11, 1990 on a Senate vote and received commission on June 4, 1990. McNamee served as the Chief Judge of the Court from 1999 to 2006 before assuming senior status on October 1, 2007.[2] McNamee was succeeded in this position by Murray Snow.
