Eugene Edward Siler, Jr. is a federal judge on senior status with the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. He joined the court in 1991 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Prior to joining the Sixth Circuit, Siler was a judge of both the Eastern District of Kentucky and the Western District of Kentucky.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Williamsburg, Kentucky, Siler earned his bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in 1958, his LL.B. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1963, and his LL.M. from Georgetown College in 1964.[1]
Military service
Siler served in the U.S. Navy as a midshipman in 1957 and as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1958 to 1983.[1]

Siler was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit by George H.W. Bush on June 19, 1991, to a seat vacated by Judge Harry Wellford. The American Bar Association rated Siler Unanimously Well Qualified for the nomination.[2] Hearings on Siler's nomination were held before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on July 24, 1991, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on September 12, 1991. Siler was confirmed by the unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate on September 12, 1991, and he received his commission on September 16, 1991. Siler assumed senior status on December 31, 2001.[1][3] He was succeeded in this position by Judge John Rogers.
Western District of Kentucky
Siler was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky by President Gerald Ford on September 19, 1975, to a seat vacated by Judge Mac Swinford. Siler was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 11, 1975, and he received his commission on November 13, 1975.[1] Siler was succeeded in this position by Judge Jennifer Coffman.
Eastern District of Kentucky
Siler was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky by President Gerald Ford on September 19, 1975, to a seat vacated by Judge Mac Swinford. Siler was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 11, 1975, and he received his commission on November 13, 1975. Siler served as chief judge of the court from 1984 to 1991.[1] Siler was succeeded in this position by Judge Jennifer Coffman.
