Sandra Shank Beckwith is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. She joined the court in 1992 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. From 2004-2009, she was the court's chief judge.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Beckwith graduated from the University of Cincinnati with her bachelor's degree in 1965 and her J.D. in 1968.[1]

Beckwith was nominated by President George H.W. Bush on July 26, 1991, to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089. The American Bar Association rated Beckwith Substantial Majority Qualified, Minority Not Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on her nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 30, 1992, and her nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on February 6, 1992. Beckwith was confirmed by the unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate on February 6, 1992, and she received her commission on February 10, 1992. From 2004 to 2009, Beckwith served as chief judge of the district court. She elected to take senior status beginning on January 1, 2009. She was succeeded in this position by Judge Timothy S. Black.[1][2][3]
