John Watson Lungstrum is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. He joined the court in 1991 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Lungstrum was the former chief judge of the court from 2001 to 2008. Effective in 2010, Lungstrum moved to senior status on the court.[1][2]

Education

Lungstrum graduated from Yale University with his bachelor's degree in 1967 and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law with his J.D. in 1970.[1]

Military service

Lungstrum was an Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1971 to 1972.[1]

Judicial career

District of Kansas

On the recommendation of Senator Bob Dole, Lungstrum was nominated by President George H.W. Bush on July 24, 1991, to a seat vacated by Judge Dale Saffels. Lungstrum was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 31, 1991, and received commission on November 5, 1991. He then assumed senior status on November 2, 2010.[1]
