Monti L. Belot is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. He joined the court in 1991 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. He is serving on senior status.[1]

Education

Belot graduated from the University of Kansas in 1965 with his bachelor's degree and 1968 with his J.D. degree.[1]

Military service

From 1968 to 1971, Belot was a JAG Officer during the Vietnam Conflict.[1]

Professional career

After serving in the JAG Corps, Belot was a law clerk for federal Judge Wesley Brown in the United States District Court for the District of Kansas from 1971 to 1973. Belot served five years in the U.S. Attorney's Office of Kansas as an assistant U.S. attorney from 1973 to 1976 and as a special assistant to the U.S. Attorney from 1976 to 1978. From 1976 to 1991, Belot was an attorney in private practice.[1]

Judicial career

District of Kansas

On the recommendation of Senator Bob Dole, Belot was nominated by President George H.W. Bush on July 26, 1991, to a new judgeship created by 104 Stat. 5089. Belot was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 21, 1991, and received commission on November 25, 1991. Belot assumed senior status on March 4, 2008.[1] Belot was succeeded in this position by Judge Eric Melgren.
