Leibniz Joint Lab Data Science & Open Knowledge

Within the framework of this Joint Lab, we conduct research in the fields of Data Science and Open Knowledge together with the Leibniz Universität Hannover and the L3S Research Center.

In order to intensify the cooperation between TIB, Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) and the L3S Research Center, the research and development of new methods and systems for data networking, as well as search in and exploration of large data sets is being promoted in various projects within the framework of the joint lab. The Joint Lab serves as a nucleus for further initiatives in the field of research and innovation.

Since its founding in 2017, the Joint Lab sustainably amplified its impact in terms of project acquisition and technology development in the initial domains of Education, Manufacturing and Automation, Health as well as Data and Web Science. Moreover, the Joint Lab expanded its activities to the four novel domains of ORKG, Data Markets, Data Entrepreneurship, Culture and the Creative Sector, as well as Digital Energy, with the acquisition of projects and the development of novel solutions tackling digitalisation challenges in these areas.

Organisation of scientific data and knowledge

The Open Research Knowledge Graph (ORKG) revolutionises how scientific knowledge is shared and used. With a structured, searchable knowledge graph, the ORKG makes scientific information more accessible and usable for the global research community.

Projects:

Data Markets, Data Ecosystems & Data Platforms

Here, the focus is on the federalisation, optimisation and integration of data markets as well as stakeholders that trade with, generate or consume data.

Projects:

Data Entrepreneurship, Business, Culture & Arts

Here, the focus is on stakeholders that combine entrepreneurship with the creative sector, especially arts and culture.

Projects:

Digital Energy, Climate & Mobility

The focus is on the digitalisation of the European energy system, integration of innovative technologies into the energy system and the research of energy-specific AI tools.

Projects:

Education

Here, the focus is on intelligent systems enable target group-specific teaching and personalised learning.

Projects:

Manufacturing & Automation

New highly networked, intelligent technologies offer the potential to radically reorganise production and service processes and redistribute work efficiently between humans and machines.

Projects:

Health

Medical research and therapy are increasingly IT-supported and networked, enabling treatments to be adapted to individual patient needs (personalisation) and placing the patient at the center.

Projects:

Data & Web Science

Our activity in the domain of Web Science combines research from different disciplines to understand and explain the Web.
