Vati is a tribe from Survivor 42. Their tribe color is green.
Early tribal dynamics on Vati were defined by the formation of three separate pairs, leading to tempestuous visits to Tribal Council that further splintered the tribe. Due to their chaotic time as a tribe, its four members that entered the merge did so with a considerable degree of mutual distrust. Grudges continued to be held into the merge, preventing Vati from rallying together as its members were quickly picked off, often by each other.

Tribe History[]
Vati had an unfortunate start to the season, with Daniel Strunk falling and dislocating his shoulder during the opening Reward Challenge only for the tribe to narrowly lose the challenge anyway. When Vati landed on their beach, they had to choose between one of two tasks to obtain their flint: "Savvy", a mental task where the tribe had two guesses to count the number of triangles; or "Sweat", where one tribe member had to use a pot to fill a barrel with seawater. Seeing that he was the most physically fit member of the tribe, Mike Turner immediately objected to the "Sweat" option so that he would not be isolated from his tribe on Day 1. Using her experience as a creative director, Jenny Kim led her tribe to success in the "Savvy" task, earning Vati the ability to make fire.
Following the challenge, Vati almost immediately broke off into three separate pairs. Jenny and Mike bonded due to their maturity and life experience, while Hai Giang and Lydia Meredith bonded over their youth and similar energy. This left Daniel and Chanelle Howell as the third pair by default, positioning themselves strategically as swing votes between the two other pairs. On Day 2, Vati selected Jenny to attend a summit, where she would make the conservative play by protecting her vote, leaving tribal dynamics unchanged.
On Day 3, Vati showed up for the first Immunity Challenge, where they saw that they were already up in numbers as Taku had lost a member to an evacuation. Vati sat Lydia out for a grueling challenge, while Daniel and Jenny's aptitude in puzzles allowed the tribe to place second, saving themselves from Tribal Council.
At camp, Hai's veganism caused him to struggle with the lack of rice provided. When Vati managed to catch crab for the tribe to eat, Hai was consoled by his tribemates and persuaded into eating crabmeat, solidifying tribal relations. Meanwhile, Mike managed to find the season's first Beware Advantage, which he shared with Jenny and Daniel. Mike's misplacement of the advantage and the revelation that he had lost his vote caused Chanelle and Daniel to consider eliminating him because of Mike's questionable strategic acumen as well as to prevent his idol from ever being activated. However, Vati's unity helped Lydia lead her tribe to a first-place finish as the caller at the next Reward Challenge.
The next day, Daniel insisted for Mike to let him read the note in the Beware Advantage again, causing Jenny and Mike to view Daniel as antsy. Daniel realized that the idol would be activated regardless of whether Mike said the phrase, thus Chanelle and Daniel decided it would be more beneficial to side with Jenny and Mike. However, the pair continued to play both sides and kept up lines of communication with Hai and Lydia.
When Vati narrowly lost the next Immunity Challenge on Day 7, Taku sent Chanelle to the summit with Omar Zaheer, Chanelle made an ill-advised decision to risk her vote despite promising to Omar that she would make the defensive play. Meanwhile back at camp, Daniel assured both pairs that he was with them. When Chanelle returned from the summit, she attempted to side-step the possibility that both she and Mike had lost their votes. She attempted to orchestrate a 2-1-1 vote by tricking Hai and Lydia into splitting their votes between Jenny and Mike. However, at Tribal Council, Hai picked up on the ruse and voted with Lydia against Jenny. Because Daniel and Jenny voted against Lydia, and neither Daniel nor Hai changed their vote on the revote, Vati encountered a deadlocked vote. Unwilling to draw rocks, Daniel almost immediately folded and threw Chanelle under the bus. Leveraging this, Hai forced Daniel's hand to vote out Jenny, flipping the power structure on Vati on its head.
In the fallout, Hai aligned with Mike based on their common distrust of Chanelle and Daniel, creating a three-person majority with Lydia. Chanelle and Daniel felt mutually burned by the other, and became two lone soldiers on the outs of the tribe. Vati would win the next Immunity Challenge, but grew to be annoyed with Daniel's lack of contribution to challenges because of his shoulder injury, which forced him to sit out of most challenges. This was exacerbated by Daniel's attempts to spearfish, which reinforced his tribemates' doubt in the severity of his injury.
Before the Immunity Challenge on Day 11, Mike shared his Beware Advantage with his tribemates. While they agreed that Mike should not say his phrase so that his idol would remain concealed into the merge for the tribe to leverage, at the challenge, Mike ended up saying his phrase and activating his idol. In the process, he regained his vote. Once again, Daniel sat out of the challenge. Vati ended up losing the Immunity Challenge, and Ika decided to send Lydia with Rocksroy Bailey to the summit. This left Hai and Mike to decide between Chanelle or Daniel as the target for the night. When Lydia returned having protected her vote, Hai, Lydia, and Mike decided to split the votes between Chanelle and Daniel to circumvent a Shot in the Dark play. At Tribal Council, Chanelle cast a stray vote against Mike, causing a 2-2-1 tie when Daniel did not play his Shot in the Dark. Daniel was voted out, leaving Chanelle with an irritated Mike who had grown irreparably distrustful of Chanelle. That night, as Chanelle attempted damage control, Hai tried to rally the tribe together. While Mike vowed allegiance to Hai and Lydia, he stated that he would never trust Chanelle again in the game.
On Day 12, a splintered Vati merged with Ika and Taku with four members apiece.
Merge[]
Despite Hai, Lydia, and Mike swearing allegiance to each other, Lydia was quickly picked off after the hourglass twist came into effect and left Hai and Mike with no options but to turn on their alliance. The two men finally got the chance to pick off Chanelle at the final eleven. Manipulated by Omar Zaheer, Mike then integrated with the Taku Four to vote out Hai at the final eight. By the time of the Final Tribal Council on Day 26, Mike had displayed an extensive pattern of disloyalty which he was unable to take ownership of in the Final Three, thus finishing the season as its runner-up.

Notes: ^1 The vote resulted in a tie. Per Survivor rules, a revote would commence.
^2 Per Survivor rules, in case of a deadlock tie, the non-immune players would have an open discussion to eliminate one of the tied players. If no consensus is reached, the non-immune castaways would be forced to draw rocks. ^3 This castaway found the Beware Advantage containing the Hidden Immunity Idol, and until all of the Hidden Immunity Idols were found, they were barred from voting. ^4 This castaway chose to risk their vote at the Summit and the other players at the Summit also risked their vote, thus making them lose their vote. |
