Rusty Gates is a recurring challenge in Koh-Lanta. It debuted in Koh-Lanta: Johor and has appeared internationally in Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X.

Rules

The castaways will start behind a gate, where they will maneuver a handle through a maze on the front of the gate. Once their handle is free, they unlock the door and race to complete a slide puzzle. The first person to finish wins.

History

United States

The challenge appeared as the fourth individual Immunity Challenge in Millennials vs. Gen X. The challenge was a blowout, as no one other than Jay Starrett was even able to get their gate open, allowing Jay to cruise to an easy win.

South Africa

The challenge was used as the fourth individual Immunity Challenge of Return of the Outcasts. After the castaways freed themselves from the gate, they would solve the puzzle from Sea Crates. Except for Killarney Jones, most of the Salan tribe was able to get past the gate. Ultimately, despite being the third-last person to get to the puzzle, Marian de Vos pulled off a surprise challenge win.
