Ghosts (ゴースト) are the spirits of the dead that remain in this world despite not possessing physical bodies.

Appearance[]

Ghosts in general look like wispy pale-white humanlike figures with dark spots for eyes, though depending on the media they may also be portrayed to look like Skeletons, Grimm Reapers or Undead Knights.

Overview[]

Ghosts can appear when people die while still holding regrets in life, and generally float around in the world without causing any trouble for living creatures. However when their regrets are strong enough or they become agitated, Ghosts may start creating disturbances and even harming people, at which point they become classified as Evil Spirits.[1]

There are various ways to get rid of Ghosts, ranging from the gentle method of conversing and engaging with them to relieve their regrets before seeing them off to the afterlife, or the aggressive approach of forcibly dispelling them from existence with holy magic.[1]

Variations[]

Zombie Maker Manga
Zombie Maker
(ゾンビメーカー)

Poltergeist (ポルターガイスト)

A ghost that possesses dolls and other objects.[3]

A ghost of someone who couldn't pass on. They keep a human-like appearance, with a semitranslucent body and pale face, as well as the ability to communicate by telepathy.
Spectre (スペクター)

A soul that was trapped by its worldly desires and warped into an evil spirit.[4]

Abilities[]

  • Possession: Ghosts with strong enough obsession can possess the bodies of people in an attempt to use them for satisfying their regrets.[1]
  • Curse: If Ghosts have regrets that are especially strong, they may become capable of cursing objects, places as well as people, so not only will they be able to manipulate physical objects, but can also transfigure things like the clothing people are wearing.[1]
