May There Be Rest to These Undead! (このアンデッドに安寧を!, Kono Andeddo ni Annē wo!) is the third chapter of the KonoSuba manga series, and covers Chapter 2 in Volume 1 of the light novels.
Summary[]
Kazuma replaces his jersey with an outfit that fits in with the fantasy fashion using his rewards from the Cabbage harvest, and utilising the skill points earned after he leveled up from completing quests, learns how to wield one-handed swords and some Basic Magic such as the Create Water, which he uses on Aqua when she teases him. Darkness, whose armour was sent to repairs after it was damaged by Cabbages, then assures the party how she can manage through defensive skills she spent all her skill points on, Kazuma ponders on her busty body to her delightful embarrassment, following which he compares it with Megumin's body to the Archwizard's ire.
When discussing the quests they should take, Aqua and Megumin refuse to sign up for ones involving Giant Toads that Darkness had wanted, while Kazuma who tells off Aqua for being the most useless declares how he now wants to make money with easy quests instead of defeating the Demon King. Darkness thus suggests they take quests for subjugating Undead so Aqua can level up, one that Kazuma agrees to in hopes Aqua's intelligence can improve.
At the cemetery that night, the party holds a barbeque, during which Kazuma skillfully applies Basic Magic for various tasks. They then talk about the quest involving subjugating Zombies that roam the place as well as the Zombie Maker that may be responsible for their appearance, before Kazuma's Enemy Detection picks up more Zombies than expected in the distance. Heading towards them, the party sees the Zombies crowding towards a hooded figure in a magic circle, who turns out to be a beautiful woman Aqua identifies as a Lich and immediately attacks.
Aqua proceeds to stamp out the magic circle said to direct lost souls of the dead to the afterlife before purifying all the Zombies with Turn Undead, only to be stopped by Kazuma when she tries to purify the Lich as well. The Lich named Wiz later explains how she regularly comes to that public cemetery where the impoverished who cannot afford a proper burial by priests are buried, so she can direct their souls to the afterlife, yet her presence has the side effect of animating nearby corpses into Zombies.
The next day, Aqua fumes over the deal Kazuma made to have her go regularly cleanse the cemetery of souls in Wiz's place. Megumin then tells Kazuma of the terrifying powers wielded by Liches, making him quite surprised at seeing one of them outside dungeons. Meanwhile, Wiz greets a townsfolk as she cheerfully heads back to her shop, and Kazuma later realises that their quest has failed.
