Goblins (ゴブリン) are small and weak humanoid monsters that generally dwell in tribes.
Appearance[]
Goblins are short demi-humans with elongated ears and greenish skin, while their other specifics in appearance vary depending on the media.
Overview[]
Goblins are aggressive but cunning creatures that while individually weaker than humans, will usually gather in tribes numbering around a dozen.[1] They are generally armed with simple weaponry, though high-ranking individuals may have access to exotic armaments.
As Goblins are frequently the targets of subjugation quests, many Goblins living in the wild have a symbiotic relationship with the Beginner's Banes, in which the clever felines keep them safe from common threats so they can serve as bait to attract beginner adventurers.[1]
Goblins also attack farms and are usually killed by the vegetables growing there. The farmers dispose their corpses by burying them far away, since their bodies are poisonous and burning them will create a toxic smoke and polute the soil.[2]
While in general the structure of Goblin society is primitive, for the few advanced societies like the Goblin kingdom situated in the Goblin Cave neighbouring Axel, there are developed hierarchies consisting of ranks including Fighter, Archer, Hero, Mage, Soldier, General, Warrior, Guard, Expeditioner, and King.[3]
Abilities[]
Poison: Goblins' meat tastes bad and it is slightly poisonous.[4]
Variations[]
- Middle Goblin (ミドルゴブリン): Goblins who are slightly better built than the regular ones.[3]
- Heavy Goblin (ヘビーゴブリン): Goblins who are much better built than the regular ones.[3]
Trivia[]
- In the first movie, Goblins served as Sylvia's subordinates in place of the Oni.[5]
- Since they are hard of dispose once they die, goblins are the farmers' nemesis,[4] and the last offer bounties on them in addition of the Guild reward.[2]
