A Loving Hand for our Party that Can't Make it Through the Winter! (この
Synopsis[]
Kazuma and Aqua can't properly accept rewards from quests due to their mediocre party lineup, and are so destitute that even keeping wood on the fire is difficult. Kazuma comes up with a plan and visits a magical accessories shop run by a woman called Wiz.
Plot[]
Aqua warms herself beside a campfire outside the freezing stables, before Kazuma stops her from using his tracksuit as fuel. They later go to Wiz's Shop, where Kazuma has to repeatedly stop Aqua from purifying the Lich shop owner, due to the owner insulting the Axis Order and revealing herself to be one of the eight Devil King's Generals. But unlike Beldia, who liked to peek up her dress by throwing his head at her feet, Wiz never harmed people and simply helps to keep the magic barrier surrounding the Devil King's Castle up. As they sip the tea Aqua demanded from Wiz, Kazuma says he wants to learn Lich skills, so Wiz teaches him Drain Touch. Yet when demonstrating it on Aqua, she is nearly purified until Kazuma stops her.
Weakened by the ordeal, Wiz passes on to them a commission by a real estate broker to purge the Ghosts that infest an uninhabited mansion once owned by a nobleman, in which they get to live as part of the assignment. The party moves in and cleans the dust, while Aqua recounts the life story of the ghost haunting the mansion. After nightfall, Aqua finds that someone had drank her treasured bubbly. Enraged, she charges around the mansion casting Turn Undead on any Ghost she runs into.
Needing the toilet, Kazuma wakes in the middle of the night, only to see dolls crowding around him. Fleeing to Aqua's room with the floating dolls chasing him, Kazuma finds no one inside but a cowering Megumin, who needs the toilet too. Unable to expect aid from Aqua or Darkness, the two of them quarrel over how to relieve themselves, until they are chased out by dolls bursting in from the window. They make it to the toilet that Megumin enters first, but Kazuma drags her out without waiting for her to put her pants on when the dolls appear again. They lock themselves into another room until the dolls try to force their way in, so with Megumin chanting incantations for Explosion in panic, Kazuma attempts to make a break for it, only to discover Aqua has already purified all those dolls which had been possessed by Ghosts.
Kazuma and Aqua collect the rewards for purging Ghosts at the Guild on the next day, but upon Luna explaining that Ghosts infested the mansion because somebody cast a magic barrier which prevented them from entering the nearby public cemetery, Kazuma realises the whole ordeal is Aqua's doing. Under pressure, Aqua confesses how she set the barrier to avoid purifying the cemetery every single day, so they agree not to accept the reward. Wiz afterwards visits a grave in the mansion yard as it is being cleaned by Kazuma, who then has to save his tracksuit from being used as firewood.
Characters[]
Differences to other versions[]
- The anime skips two story arcs between this episode and Episode 7. Those can be found in Volume 2 of the light novels or Volume 3 of the manga.
- The 1-day party switch between Kazuma and Dust.
- Keele's dungeon exploration with just Kazuma and Aqua, which was adapted into a later episode in Season 2.
- Wiz was introduced much earlier compared to this episode in Volume 1 of the light novels or Chapter 3 of the manga. An audio drama featuring the anime voice actors that tells the story of how Wiz first met Kazuma's party was included with the first anime soundtrack.
- In the flashback of Aqua's first meeting with Wiz, their clothing differs slightly in the light novel. Aqua is not wearing her goddess robe while Wiz is shown wearing her usual outfit and not her Lich cloak.
- In the light novel, Wiz mentions that there is only one Devil King's General who she is close friends with.
- Several minor changes to the mansion scenes are made which differ from the light novel, such as:
- Aqua going on an extremely long monologue describing all she knows about Anna. This continued even after the others had cleaned up the mansion and settled in.
- For the scene in Aqua's room, they changed dialogues between Kazuma and Megumin slightly. In the light novel, Megumin is more cooperative. In this episode, she basically threatens to sabotage Kazuma if he tried to pee from the balcony.
- Kazuma going first in the bathroom and singing outside per Megumin's request is absent in this episode.
Trivia[]
- Aqua's hagoromo is a powerful divine relic that can disappear and reappear as Aqua wills it. She can also use it as a winter scarf.
- Based on the pachinko slot game, Kazuma and Megumin would have tearfully expressed gratitude on their knees to Aqua for saving them from the dolls, had he not knocked her out with the door when trying to make a break for it.
