Summary[]

Thirty-one years after the death of Himmel the Hero, Frieren's Party is in the Kino Pass. There is a three week wait at the border to cross into the Empire, so while they wait, Frieren decides to revisit the Monument of the Goddess that she visited with the Hero Party. However, when she touches the ruins of the monument, she is transported to fifty-three years before the death of Himmel the Hero, seven years after the heroes' departure.

Plot Details[]

Thirty-one years after the death of Himmel the Hero, Frieren's Party is in the Northern Plateau, specifically the Kino Pass. The party arrives at the border of the Northern Plateau and the Empire, but a guard informs them there is currently a three week wait to enter the Empire. Because of the defeat of Macht of Golden Land, the Fortified City of Weise has started to function again. The Northern Plateau has become safer as a result, leading to more merchants and adventurers traveling through the Northern Plateau instead of by sea. As a result, the Empire's immigration office is understaffed, leading to the long delays in processing. Stark complains that there isn't even anything to do while they wait and questions how they will kill time, but Frieren reassures him that won't be a problem, as there's somewhere she wants to visit. Frieren explains that she wants to visit the Monument of the Goddess. When Fern recognizes the name, Frieren expresses surprise at Fern's knowledge, and Fern expounds, explaining that Heiter would often read to her about the Goddess of Creation who appears in the Holy Scriptures.

Frieren explains that it is said the Goddess enchanted ten stone monuments and left them on this continent, and one of them is around the area they're currently in. Frieren states that she would like to decipher the magic the Goddess enchanted the monument with, despite Fern adding that in recorded history, no one has ever figured out the magic of the monuments. Stark expresses concern that they will be stuck in the area for decades, but Frieren reassures them that she simply wants to redeem herself, and that she'll give up if she can't decipher the monument before the Empire lets them in. When Stark questions what she means by redeeming herself, she explains that last time she visited the monument with the Hero Party they wandered for three whole days before they found the monument and because the party was mad at her, she couldn't properly check the monument out. She adds that after inspecting the monument, she lost a week's worth of memory, leading to Fern growing irritated and Stark growing concerned about the monument's safety.

Despite these concerns, Frieren presses onward. Frieren's Party then spend the next few days traversing through various forests and mountains before finally reaching the Monument of the Goddess. However, when they arrive, they find that the monument is in ruins, though Frieren notes there is still mana inside. At the base of the ruined monument is an inscription—Vialathor—which Frieren comments wasn't there the last time she was at the monument. Fern thinks the inscription doesn't look recent, and reminds Frieren that the name appears in the Holy Scriptures in the chapter about the time-traveling bird, though this still doesn't ring a bell for Frieren.

Frieren then decides to try deciphering the magic in the monument. She touches her hand to the ruins of the monument which begin to brightly glow. As the glow fades, the monument has abruptly returned to its original state from eighty years prior. Frieren is briefly confused, before, from behind, Himmel's voice asks her whether she managed to learn anything. Frieren turns around to see the entire Hero Party as they were eighty years ago during then ten year journey together. At her shocked expression, Himmel asks her what is wrong, and Frieren turns back to the monument and says that she doesn't understand at all. She then walks up to Himmel and checks if he is real, before asking how old he is. Himmel states that he is 23—it is fifty-three years before the death of Himmel the Hero, seven years after the heroes' departure, and Frieren has returned back in time.
